Check Engine Light and trouble

Hello folks,
I own a Mazda 626 LX 1998 V6. I bought it used and the engine light's been on forever. I recently chaged the spark plugs (the old ones were totally shot). It drove well for couple of days, but now the engine almost wants to quit at idle and in between fine driving I can feel a engine "push" if you will it that way. The check engine light now flashes more often than before and even when idling. What do you think it could be, could it be the high performance platinum plugs I put in? Also what are the signs of the car needing a new timing belt? Thanks

Timing belt shows no "signs" it is bad, it just fails. Replace every 60k miles. I would go to an auto parts shop that has a code reader and see if the car has set any codes in the computer. My guess would be that you have a bad o2 sensor but that is just a guess. BJ
