Hi everyone,

The Camaro I'm looking at runs well overall and has the automatic and has the 305. However the car was not able to pass emissions and if anyone can add any insight as to what, or why, or how to possibly fix it I would be very greatful.

Thanks again,

Joe

Try checking the trouble codes... The terminal is on the drivers side on the kick pannel.
Turn the key to on(but dont start) and use a noncolored paperclip to connect the A and B terminals. The fan will kick on and the check engine light will start to flash codes.
each code will be repeated 3 times before the next code flashes. The first code that comes up will be 12, then others will follow if the computer senses a problem. If the only code is 12, then there are no trouble codes(doesnt mean there isnt a problem, just means the computer hasnt noticed one)
Dont disconnect the battery prior to checking the codes(this will clear the codes)

Let us know what codes come up.
If no codes pop up then the car probably just needs a good tune up.
You should do the work yourself.
If you want specifics, then we will need more info about how the car is running.
I would say to check the timming first. That was why my car failed when I first got it.

Tell us more about the car so we can give you some more info... RS or Z28? How many miles on the engine. What has been done to it? etc...

As far as what has been done to it that I don't know as of yet, nor do I know the milage but I do know that its an RS model with the 305.

I'll get the other information as soon as I possibly can.

Besides an oil change, plugs, wires, air filter, I will prob. also get the radiator flushed.

Anything else that would go under the terms of a tune up?

Also the car has been sitting at the garage for just under a year so if there is anything that I should be concerned about please let me know.

Thanks again,

Joe

Probably a transmission oil change.......not too many people do that........
Oh and are you getting any codes?

I do not own the car as of yet but that is being worked out.

Tranni fuld change would also be done. I have also kept up on that in the Jeep Cherokee Esp. after having to have the tranfercase replaced! That was expensive but it was well worth it. 1996 4.0 and 237,000 and still going strong!

When / if "Very hopeful" I get the car I'll def. look for codes and post them when I get the car.

Thanks again you guys are great!

Make shure you check for rust before you buy it...
Jack up the car and spend a sec under there looking for any rust, then pull the battery out and check the battery pan for rust.

What else?... Cap, Rotor, PCV valve, charcol canister filter, and fuel filter.
Add some injector and check the timming...and that should be good.

...If there are a lot of miles on it, then you might also want to change the timming chain and tensioner (you can do it yourself) Get a double-roller chain.

Hi everyone,

All great advice but where is the charcoal canister filter on the car.

I am def. going to double check it for rust as well.

Anything to look out for as far as suspenion or steering to look out for?

Thanks again everyone.

The charcoal canister filter is under the charcoal canister(it is in the corner opposite the battery)
Just make shure the steering is tight and that all joints have been lubed regularly...
