Brakes

:banghead: Recently, I've installed new front rotors and ceramic pads in my '02 Intrigue. After few weeks of driving, I've started hearing this annoying sound.
It sounds like metal slides(slips) against metal.:screwy: The squeaky noise comes from the passenger side only. I've triple checked everything and can't find anything wrong with brake set up. I taught it might have been a faulty caliper but do not want to replace it 'till I know for sure it is. Help.

When I bought my 2000 GLS used it came with new brake components, crappy ones of course and they squeak like hell after a month. Replaced with ceramic pads and they've never made a noise since.

Since brake dust is the #1 cause of brake squeaking and ceramic pads are quiet from its dustlessness (is this a word?) I'd re-confirm the pads are actually of ceramic type, then make sure the backing shim is in good condition and is well treated with the compound.

Did you put silicone on the sliders? I just did brakes on my car w/ ceramix from NAPA and they are very quiet.

I bought the $55-65 Napa ceramic ones and they are great (better than stock). Perfect fit also. The Napa pads have a ton of surface material so you will need a clamp (metal C-Clamp etc) to push the brake piston all the way back in.

You have good pedal pressure? If you don't, maybe the pedal isn't pulling the pad back enough = bleed the brakes. I would jack the car up, spin the tires manually and see what is causing the noise or contact.

The ceramic pads I bought are made by BOSCH. Paid over $65:shakehead for them. I did bleed brakes few times and I have to admit that it helped a little bit but it didn't go away. I guess I'll go with 'lube the cylinder' idea first:lol: . I don't think that the cylinder puts enough pressure on the pad which in this case might be dirty. I'll give you all an update by the weekend. Thanx

I bet you it'll just take another month of wear, to wear the old rotors in. I should have replaced my $20 rotors with new ones. So far I have been lucky and have had no problems. I highly doubt the rotors will last as long as these new ceramic pads I put in.

The rotors just pop right off, so why not replace them (~$40 both =cheap). Work those brakes hard and I bet the noise will slowly go away.

Besides the noise, the brakes work fine? Did you spray the rotors with brake cleaner to get all the grease off = rotors were clean when put on? And the noise is all the time or just when using the brakes?

Is the squeek there all the time or only when you brake? I know sometimes I had a small stone shoot up in there and I used compressed air to jar it free. Also, 3 years ago I had Bendix Titanium pads on my car. They would squeek for the first few weeks. A fellow at Midas said it was normal because that material is such a hard compund. Their treament was to soak the pads in a silicone solutions for .5 a day. The noise eventually went away. Let us know.

Thanx everyone for giving me so much helpful info. I tried to lube the cylinder in the caliper but no such a luck. Can't do it without damaging the rubber collar that protects inside from the dust. Anyway, the squeak appears when the brakes are hot. Though, yesterday actually happened right at the first stop in the morning. Here are the facts: brand new rotors($55/ea), brand new ceramic pads($65/box), professionally installed(by me:icon16: ,done it many, many, many times) it comes from passanger side and still this terrifying, horrible and 'can't take this any more' noise. I think it's the caliper. It needs to go. If any one, I mean any body has any other ideas please do not hesitate and put them on the FORUM.

First of all you cannot and should not "lube" the caliper piston maybe the mount slides, but this squeal, if generated by the contact of the pad to the rotor is actually a high frequency vibration caused by the pad to rotor surface. I would pull offf the suspect pads, make sure they are smooth and dirt free and also the rotor surface is smooth and uniform, also dirt free. Were there metal shims that were supposed to be attached to the rear of the pads, many pads have them in the box or already installed on the pad to dampen potential squeaks.

maybe the caliper is sticking and therefore more noticeable when hot. I've had cars that seems ok until driven for 15 or 20 minutes - enough to heat up the brakes and make them start binding.

Maybe drive the car around enough to make this start happening and then jack the car up quickly and try turning the front wheels. See if one side turns harder than the other.

:screwy: A new update. I replaced the ceramic pads with semi metallic. It seems like they were better choice. No noise any more but... There is one particular noise that batters me.When I take right turn and brake I can hear this inconsistent braking noise, like pulsing braking.Usually happens when I take a right turn but sometimes happens when the car is in straight line. I do not know what to think about it. It might be a defective rotor. What you think? Few days ago when I replaced front pads I also replaced new rotors and pads for rear wheels. When I bought new rotors, one of them was a defect. I had to take it bake and get new one. The defect was in the inner parking brake drum area. The measurements were off and I could not get the rotor on. I adjusted the parking brake and still wasn't fit right. When I took it back to the auto store they told me that the defects happens and gave me a new one. The question: could that be the same problem with my front brake noise? I know that some of you guys are mechanics for living and I know you're doing a great job and I respect that but I do not wanna go to one with this problem 'till I know for sure I can't fix it. Thanks for any comments.
