Do they make anything for vans like a cold air intake?

I've had my 92 for a few trouble free years, and now that I need to get to know it a little intimately, the thought of a performance mod has come to mind also. For me it is not for more power but to be more efficient. Better intake and exhaust systems maybe. Or just less rolling drag would help. I was getting about 27 mpg with my style of driving. A 10% gain would be nice. It would like getting 10% off on gas in the long run.

All CAI's that I have seen have been DIY.
I have installed a custom exhaust on mine and it made about 1mpg difference in mileage. Seems to make some HP difference, maybe 5-7hp. The most difference I noticed is at about 1/2 throttle the transmission acted like the engine was putting out more power than it was expecting and the shifts were odd for about three days. After a time the trans controller must have re-callibrated for the higher engine output and the shifts smoothed out again. Something else though, it raised the WOT shift point (3.8l) from 4600rpm to 4900rpm. Not much of a change but evidently the engine is putting out more power above it's factory 4400rpm HP peak. The trans controller has a very complicated AI program and makes adjustment based on power output and driving style.

Only aftermarkets I've seen were throttle body spacers (~$100) and a cheap K&N knockoff that appears to be a dryer vent hose attached to a cone filter. I've read about switching out the newer 48mm throttle body with the older 52mm, shaving and polishing the intake plenum, and fabricating a plenum spacer for the 3.0L.

Two low maintance intake mods that really make a difference are replacing the air filter with a K&N and removing the air silencer in front of the air box. Better air flow through the intake allows for better MPG.
