Today I had an interview at the BMW dealership near my house. Im starting in June washing cars. The starting pay is $9/hr. Thats soooooooo much better than my current job stocking a cooler at a local convenience store at the meager pittance of $5.50/hr. So I dont know how important this is, but I'm sure happy about it. Oh, and I am REQUIRED to be able to drive cars with manual tranny's.

Well, yes and no. I have never ACTUALLY driven one, but I know how to do it... If you know I'm getting at. But I will tommorow, cuz my friend has a 5 speed Civic so I'll give it a shot.

Just caught this thread by chance. I work part-time at a BMW/Porsche dealership doing the same thing that you just hired for. This job is a lot of fun and you will get to drive a ton of awesome cars. I would like to see how your experience goes to see if it is any different from mine. I worked there full time last summer and by the end I really wasn't washing cars at all but helping out with other random stuff that meant more time driving. Sometimes I had to go to partner dealerships about an hour away for random part runs but they would let me take a X5 if it was for a windshield or once a Boxter for a $5 switch. Get ready for daily experiences that will make all of your friends jealous.

Haha duuuude that sounds sweet. If its anything like what your talking about, then I'm ganna have a ball. By the way, I havent started yet cuz they are moving to a 4 story dealership that can disply somthing like 380+ cars inside the dealership. But they might need people to drive the ones that arent being moved by the transport truck... ya never know.

I started today and I worked the 3rd floor "Pre Owned" floor and all I did was clean windows and dry them off as they got brought back from the washers. And the dealership can hold 400 cars within 4 floors. But I did get to drive:

2 X5 3.0is
2 530i
325i

Well, I had timing that was too good to be true. I was out looking for a job cuz my parents said I needes a summer job that made more than $5.15/hr (I was stocking a cooler for the past 3 years w/o a raise). So I went to a Cadillac dealer and they didnt seem like they needed anyone. And just on a whim, I went to the BMW dealer just to see. I asked and the woman at the front said that they needed a guy because some guy had quite so he could go back to school. And the rest is lucky freakin history. I'm still amazed that I locked a 9$/hr job that involves driving BMWs! And its not that hard, except they have me working full time hours. I was looking for a PART time job. I worked 4 days this week, and I'm up to 35 hours. And next week looks like I'll be doing 45-50 hr's. Thats more than my mom and almost as much as my dad. And I'm 17. My manager has me coming in at 8 am every day, and on Monday he wants me in at 7:30 AM. When Im doing it, its stressful cuz they bring me cars faster than I can get them ready to bring to customers or park. But when Im here talking about it, its a very cushy job.

I do valet arking and BMW sticks are the easiest next to hondas. The shifter is smooth and so is the clutch. Most of them have enough power especially cold where you just ease off the clutch and it rolls. I currently avg $9 hour 60% cash. You know how much the valet guys make at the BMW station and you get paid check or cash? Cause check would suck.

Well idk how much other people there make (prolly more than me) but I get $9/hr and get paid in check form every week.

ahhh....when driving a car was considered a "treat".

Now, its just one of the pain in the butt things I have to do that doesn't pay enough. :D

I rarely get to drive anything that I'm truly interested in at work. But then, most cars bore me anyway.

Last fun car I actually enjoyed driving, that I can think of , was a 300ZX. Quick little car. I've driven several M3's, they are pretty spunky too. But I never to play with exotic cars. Our store just about never see's anything interesting.

Not that I'm really complaining. Cars aren't my passion. They just pay the bills.
