2002 Duratec Problem for the Pro's

Just can't figure this one out yet?? :banghead: FIXED !!!!!

My 2002 38K Duratec misfires at startup for a minuet or so but only after I put it in gear with air off at idle. Then runs fine. Then after it is wormed up, when I put the Air on, it misses a LOT at idle only. Runs fine once I get going.
Here is what I have done so far to try and resolve this problem:
1. Replaced Ignition coil
2. Replaced the plug wires.
3. Replaced the fuel filter.
4. Replaced the air filter.
5. Replaced the pcv valve.
6. Sprayed starter fluid all over the engine while running to try and find a vaccum leak with no change in rpm's.
I am getting codes as follows: P0303 and P0316
Any suggestions from the pro's out there as to what I should try next??
Thanks again for all the help you guy's have given me so far!!!!

P0303 is cylinder #3 misfire. Look at the spark plug since you have changed the wires. P0316 indicates a misfire in the first 1000 revolutions of the engine. I would be sure an injector is not partially open allowing fuel to drain into the cylinder after shut off. An injector cleaning may be in order.
The mis you feel at idle is still there at higher RPM's, but due to the speed of the engine, you may not feel it. Also check to be sure the IAC is operating properly and the pintle inside is clean. If it gets carboned up, your RPM's may be a little low causing the miss with the extra load on the engine from the A/C.

You know all the money you have spent working on this problem you could have taken it to a mechanic and had it fixed by now for much less the cost.

Not at all. You are forgetting the cost of Labor at $90.00 per hour I have SAVED by doing it my self with of course the Super Help from the folks on this list !!!
Besides, what kind of satisfaction and self accomplishment does one get by having someone else do his work for him??
Just my 2 cents though.

Above missing problem FOUND AND FIXED
Seems that all this time, spark plug #3, the porcelain part of the spark plug was carcked causing the missfire.
Thanks to Rod and all the rest of the folks on this list for all the suggestions and help to finally get this car running GREAT again !!!
Regards,
Rob Roy:)

If you are paying 90 for a mechanic you are paying way to much. Top mechanic shops shouldn't charge more than 60 and hour.

That was a yummy beer, way2old, thanks!

Isn't $90 per hour about average for a dealership these days? An independent tech/shop may charge around $60 per hour, but I think dealers are much more than that.

Dealers vary price by region. Around here they are about 80 per hour. Larger cities or high tourist areas rates can go much higher.

Maybe where YOU live BUT NOT here in Palm Beach, Florida ! $60 per hour has been GONE now for YEARS. Different areas of the country have different hourly rates.

I was nice enough to do some calling around :)
I found 16 English/3 Spanish speaking Mechanics in WPB that charge under $90/hr. I found 8 that charge $60 and two that charge $40 which is what my shop generally charges. Also one of the shops that charged $70 an hour did not charge a mark up on parts like 99% of other auto part shops.
