Thoughts on:
1.) Nissan pitting the new Z car up agaisnt the Boxster
2.) Is this really going to effect Porsche market share?

I really dont think so, the name porsche itself will sell cars no matter what it is.
The cars are very evenly matched, if it does affect porsche it will because of how much cheaper it is.
And Nissan said that they were aiming for the 350Z to compare more to the 911.

I honestly think Boxster shouldnt be called porsche. I just dont like it at all. I love other porsche, but this one remind me of a frog. I dont like it because it is very slow compared to other porsche's. If i was giving one of them and had to choose between them, i would get me the Z350 instead of the boxster unless i sell the boxster and get me a Z06.

the boxster is completely out of the line of porsche!
350z will outperform without problem a boxster!
the only boxster that is really nice and looks like a porsche is the ruf one!
it haves turbo wheels and gt2 front@

I need a new car and i'm trying to decide what to get. A new 350Z or a used Porsche boxter? I have a $45,00 price limit though. Anyone want to by my Z3?

For 45,000 you could probably score a 350Z and something else, maybe an MR2 Spyder for sunny days?
Or you could do a little searching and for 45,000 you can get an 87-89 Ferrari 328 GTS in good shape. Unless of course you want something reliable. I'd go for the Z.

I also looked at the Z4 3.0L, 6 speed manual and a conv. i'm lookin for a convertible that is an everyday driver. So it's down to the Z4 and 350Z(or porsche)

I don't think its a good comparison. The price of the Porsche is much higher, so people buying the Nissan wouldn't even think of getting the Porsche. I don't think someone planning to buy a Porsche will even think of a Nissan. So I don't think it will affect the Porsche market at all. Recently the Porsche stocks climbed 40 per cent.
The Porsche is in a market that caters to people who drive the car as it is. The Nissan is more of a tuners car, people who like modifying cars.

I think the fact that the Boxster is a convertible and the Z is not also makes them difficult to compare. Generally, it seems to me that many people buy convertibles because they WANT a convertible. They may have trouble deciding between, say, an S2000 and a Boxster, but I think many potential buyers of the Porsche would not consider the fixed-roof Z. Now if they came out with a convertible Z, there may be more buyers deciding between the two.

The only reason i considerd a 350Z is because it is sporty, fast, and comes with basicly everything standard. The Boxter comes with almost nothing standard! But after deciding I am going to trade my Z3 in for a Z4. I can get a good trade in deal. I'm going for the 6 speed manual 3.0L. When I first saw it I fell in love with it. It's also a conv!

People will always complain about how much a Porsche costs until they sell out completely and get bought out by Volkswagen (Dear God NO!!). Porsche is the ONLY independent car manufacturer left so naturally their products will come with a greater price tag. And I'm confident a Boxster S will outperform a 350Z at the track any day of the week.;)

The Boxster is a mid-engined sports car that has been praised by just about everyone who's ever tested it as the most complete sports car today and one of the best handling and balanced ever... "it's not a real Porsche?" fools....
im with kaoru, its pure Camaro mentality... thats a car that will out-accelerate the Boxster, yet in my opinion is one of the worst cars in the world, without a shadow of a doubt... do camaro's come with steering wheels these days or have they given up on those... last time i checked Chevy still couldnt figure out what they were made for.... if u dont rate Boxster's, you dont understand cars. Simple as that.

A Boxster S will definitely outperform a 350z.......especially on turns.

It is an unfair comparison to compare the Boxster and the 350z given the difference in displaement. The Boxster S is closer in displacement and outperforms the Z car. (heh, heh.)
A better comparison would be to the 996 Carrera as the difference in displacement is only about 100cc. The difference in performance, though....
Lesson:stop trying to compare Japanese "performance" cars to European sports cars. The ricers come out on the short end every time.
