Meaning how to get throu the bloody firewall and in the cluster? take a cable or a coat hanger and reroute it from there.
a bit of a pain in the butt to do it
I am sick and tired of mine already and going to convert it into digital pretty soon. A lot of people tells me not to do it, but i will go for it anyway. better than replacing it 5 times a year or when it is not the cable? it is the adapter or the speedo gear.
Word of advice? if you replace the cable? replace the entire thing. Adater"if applicable" and the speedo gear.
Like i said, i am going digital and speaking of which????
what does it need to run it?
digi dash and wires and sensors, i know, but do we need anything else?

Where exactly does it go thru at the firewall above or below the plate that the steering column bolts to. Going thru the firewall is not the problem
getting on top of that plate is the problem.. Mine came with an electronic
speedo I'm converting to a mechanical, so there was no cable.

Now i get ya. "can we trade, i am looking to convert mine in Electronic or digital"
The Cable go through the firewall where all the wires comes out above the steering shaft. Almost right beside where the brake booster is.
then slide the cable through it until the other guy sees the cable coming in the cable should go around the exhaust on the driver side "make sure it doesn't make contact on it and no kink on the cable" smooth curve
then you can use some zip ties and put it against the frame of the van and connect the speedo cable onto the adapter "if necessary" or straight to the tranny
once that is installed, go for a drive. if your speedometer bounce up and down, fix the kink. the speedometer should go up nice and smooth as you speed
i am working on my truck today as i have to change my Differential and oil change, i could take some pictures of it if you want, it will be better then explaining where it should go. Or i could send you an email later if you want
But you do need:
speedo cable
speedo gear "tranny"
adapter "ratio .8" if your van is an 87 tranny model 700
