Its me again about my tranny and speedo. The dealer just called and changed his quote for my repair. Now he says the front pump is leaking and it will cost $700 more. This pump was replaced in the rebuild and it was only warranteed for 12000 or 12 months.(The whole rebuild.)
Now how can I fight this? A pump has to last longer then 15 months and or 14,700 miles or it must be a defective part.
The output sensor I can handle but this is CRAP.....Any ideas? The car is sitting in the dealers waiting.....

I think he is trying to gouge you , pay for the sensor and take it somewhere else if there is still a problem . This dealer sounds like he is looking for some easy extra money .

:iagree:
Vipergg is right. If the transmission worked well before and the parts you mentioned earlier will fix it then have them do that and forget the front pump. One question..did the tranny squeal or whine when it is in gear? If not tell the dealer to pound sand and don't change the pump.

No it never whinned....His exact words were the pump wasnt gone but its leaking....he also said if it would have been bad earlier during my warranty period I would have known...My question to him is...How do we know it wasnt leaking earlier ....Why is it leaking with only 14,700 miles .
My question to you is what damage will it do if its leaking. Is this a visible leak? On the ground etc?
I am so disgusted....He did give me Chryslers HQ number but we know they wont help.....

Oh they also said the coolant lines were not the problem just the pump...So it would just need the outer sensor thing.....And of course the $700 PUMP...

This may help or just confuse the issue. I recently had a leaking front pump issue repaired on my 96 GC. It started 3 years ago. After noticing small puddles in the driveway I investigated and found coolant was collecting on the top of the transfer case in the "cooling grids" to the point it would overflow and drip on the driveway. Plus I was getting a coat of fluid covering the the back hatch. I was always baffled as to why the fluid would collect on top until I brought it up on this forum and was told fluid was leaking past the front pump seal then getting thrown up and out the crank sensor and coming to rest on top of the tranny. I lived with it for 3 years until I was adding a quart of tranny fluid per week. Six months ago I had a local shop repair it. They removed the tranny, took it to a transmission shop, they in turn replaced the forward pump seal and a brass bushing (they come as a kit). The final bill was...you guessed it...$700. Hasn't leaked since. By the way, the tranny always worked perfectly. It just leaked fluid.
Based on my experience I'm thinking they aren't replacing the pump, just the seal. If they were replacing the pump, I would think they would be charging you a chunk more than $700. Look at the top of your transmission way down in the back. See any fluid? Wipe your finger across the back window. Feel slimmy?
In any case, even the seal should last more than 12 months. Unfortunately, a 12 month warranty is just that. Not sure how to fight it. If it is just the seal you should be able to live with it for a while. Just make sure you regularly check the fluid level. Forgetting it one time could be ugly. Oh yeah! The only reason I go to a dealer is to get recalls fixed and get parts that only they have. Beyond that, I NEVER, NEVER, NEVER LET A DEALER TOUCH MY VAN. NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your info was alot of help and I intend to save it for the future.
Heres the latest...At 8am today my rep(guy with first quote) called and was all upset because the second guy was rude and etc to me.I enlightened him even further and he gave me the "well Im gonna take care of you stuff"
Two hours later he called back and said they had called Chrysler and they were eating the part and the dealer was doing all the work at cost.My bottom line for the new pump(am I sure thats what Ill get????) and the output sensor and labor is $570.00
Now my gut tells me this is all a sham but what can I do?I intend to get in writing all that they did and insist that the warranty should start from now again...But who knows....
We lost our personal mechanic/friend in a car wreck a few years ago and we"ve been lost ever since.I know the dealers are rip offs, because a friend of my Moms worked at one and told us they all rip you.....
Is there a way I can tell if a new pump was actually put in?
Thanks for the info......

I don't know if this will help you now but, there are what they call 5 star dealers. It is very hard to get a 5 star rating from Daimler-Chrysler and they can lose it if they get caught ripping people off. 5 Star dealers are required to have a excellent customer satifaction both in the service and sales department. If you have a choice, take your vehicles to a 5-star dealership. I only buy from 5 star dealerships even if I have to go further to find one. I have has three Caravans for a total of 220,000 miles but I've never had any trouble with them that required dealer attention.
