Good Lt1 Cams?

Well i saved some cash up and i have 1grand 2 spend. Now i was thinking of getting my heads, intake, tb ported and polished and getting a new cam. What's a good cam for a lt1? i know there's the lt4 hotcam but is there a better cam out there?

Get the LE1 package.

It's a cam custom ground for his setup, I've never heard of any complaints from his customers.

Nothing is better than a custom ground cam, it is worth the extra money.

yEAH I just looked at there website and damn $1,100 for the heads and cam kit aint bad. They say the le1 390rwhp. i might look into that.

Ask him about the LE 1.5 package as well... it's basically the LE1 heads with the LE2 cam... it will net a bit more horsepower up top in exchange for a small loss in low-end torque. You'll be much faster though:wink:

Keep in mind: In relation to the "400hp" LT4 heads/cam/intake kit(which costs $2200), the LE1 package is actually more powerful. The LT4 kit will only net about 360rwhp, the 400 rating is at the crank.

If you buy a set of heads and send them to him its alot cheaper but I have sent a couple sets of LT1 heads them and they are really good porters. There are a few cams that work great depending on what your looking for. There is the milder side which will not cause too much lope or kill gas mileage but deliver a nice rpm range and boost in power. I would go with a comp cam 305 or LT4 Hotcam. If your looking for some nice power with some lope and a slightly less efficient gas mileage. You can go with Comp cam 306 or GM 847. Definetly use roller rockers and some nice springs (alot of people cheap out on springs but a good valve spring will increase seat pressure and coule make about 10 extra horse) There are plenty of other good cams out there but those are the general one's people choose.

One VERY important thing to know is that anything about the size of a CC306 or more, you will NEED a 3000+ stall converter.

I'd say the LE1 or LE1.5 is for you since you're on a budget and I'm sure want to retain relatively good street manners.

Its recommended to have a 2400 or higher with a 306 but I know people that have had that cam with a stock Converter. Its not mandatory but a good idea to have a stall.
