on my 2000 lesabre when i turn the air conditioner on the car a really loud noise was told it was the compressor but i had car that needed a compressor and it made noise all the time not just when the a/c was on could this true please help

A compressor can be bad internally and make noise only when operating, it can also have a bad pulley bearing which makes it noisey all the time, we cannot hear it from here, thats about the all info available.
