Strange sound when in gear!?

I have a 92 probe gl 2.2L. Auto.
Today I noticed this sound comming from the engine. When the car is in gear it makes this loud "whineding" or a "nananana" type noise, and when I apply gas the noise gets louder, and the faster i go, the louder it gets. I can't tell where the noise is comming from in the engine compartment and I'm not sure if I should drive it. my friend who's a mechanic told me It might be the tranny, and of course it's not something he does. Other than that noise, the tranny runs fine. Any clue what it may be?

I have pretty much the same problem with my '93 Probe
It makes the same noise you described, but only going into 1st & a little in 2nd.
It seems only to make the noise as I am clutching-out, anyone have the same problem & fixed it?
