I need to remove the interior front door panels on my 98 escort wagon to replace the speakers. How do I remove them without tearing anything up?
Thanks in advance.

If your car has manual windows, slip a rag behind the window crank and hook the clip. Pull the clip off the crank and slide the crank off the shaft. Put the clip back on the crank so you don't lose it. If your car has electric sindows remove the switch and disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the screw that fastens the inside door handle. Pry the handle trim away from the door, take the handle rod loose and take the handle out.

Remove the arm rest screw which is either in the side or the bottom of the rest. Don't try to take the arm rest off. It is part of the door panel.

Remove the 2 piece push pins from the front of the door.

Slide a wide bladed screwdriver or putty knife between the door panel and the door and pry the retainers out carefully. There are 3 on the front, 3 on the bottom and 2 on the back. Don't force the retainers out of the trim panel or they won't hold when you put them back.

Lift the panel and slide it towards the back so the upper flange clears the sheet metal on the door.

Putting it on again make sure the master locater is in it's hole at the top center of the door. To put the handle back on just put the clip in the handle and press it back onto the shaft.
