What should I do!?!

Okay, here is the delema. I recently got an email from a guy who is selling his (91-93?) Stealth, I am pretty sure it is the R/T version (non-tubro), but it might be the turbo he hasn't emailed me back yet. He is selling that for 2300. BUT, my friend is selling his Stealth (91-93) turbo for 3 grand. Should I wait for my friend to sell his? or should I go with the one I have found for 2300? I am a student in high school and don't make a huge income. Tell me what you think. I do live in an area where AWD would be preferable, but not mandatory.

Buy it from your friend. You've seen the car, know it works, and plus, you get the friend-ish discount. Also, I doubt a guy would be selling a RT/TT for $2300 unless it had something seriously wrong with it. Good luck!

If you dont have much of an income you dont want either. Seriously. First time something breaks you are gonna be pissed because you cant afford to fix it.

I think before anyone can make an educated decision on which one is the better deal we would need more facts. A twin turbo for $3k is probably in very rough condition but you never know if you can get a steal. If the guy wants $2300 then its probably the RT NA. A detailed description of each car would be nice. ie. mileage, 60k & 120k tune up, salvage title, body condition, etc.

Neither. These cars aren't cheap to own or maintain. And I've said it a million times, no offense to you, but I don't think any high-school aged guy should have a TT.

I'm not trying to be a prick here, so please don't take this the wrong way. But if you are a student on a low income, buy a Honda or Toyota (cheap and reliable) for the time being. Debt and being broke becuase of a car sucks!

Alright, With some further evaluation I have decided to go with the Stealth R/T (non TT) version. It is well within my price range and I just want a car that is fun to drive, not a car that would kill me. Plus this car does look great as it is in good condition, Thanks for all your help! Just Wondering-How fast does the Stealth R/T make in a 1/4 mile?

If its running well is should make about low 15's.

^mid to low 15s depending on the driver...

You made a very very good decision... remeber, you can always upgrade to an RT/TT later. Post some pics after you get it!

I will definetly be sure to post pictures, if the guy ever emails me back! No worries, it has only been a day. But I am definetly excited, it will be a whole new world compared to my now recent car (1991 Subaru Loyale) which has about 90 horsepower. Just a few more questions though: What is the main difference between the R/T, ES, and base models? Oh and is the R/T a fun car to drive?

Morphius289
05-16-2006, 01:21 AM
Plus, for an extra couple thousand $$ you can create a FWD/TT

05-16-2006, 01:21 AM
Sorry, i meant SL, not ES

Morphius289
05-16-2006, 01:23 AM
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the ES is the 162hp SOHC FWD version, the RT/NA is the 222hp DOHC FWD version, and the RT/TT is the 320hp DOHC AWD version. And yes. They are hella fun to drive :-p

05-16-2006, 01:25 AM
Haha, I don't know about that one. Not sure my mother would be too happy with that. She doesn't even want me to have a car with more than 150 horsespower :)

Morphius289
05-16-2006, 01:30 AM
O.o 162hp isn't very quick, but it'll get you there. In our modern world of technology, you'd be pretty hard pressed to find a stock car that has under 150hp unless you're looking for an econobox like the Scion xA/xB. And, for the record, I have the SOHC version...and it's damn slow. I'm in no way trying to make our cars look bad, but its just flat out slow. The DOHC is a HUGE difference from the SOHC. I've driven them back-to-back, and the power gain is very impressive. Now if I could only get my hands on a TT...

Anyways, good luck with your purchase. I'm sure you'll love it! And just don't tell your mom how much hp it has :-p

youngcaradvc
05-16-2006, 01:33 AM
Haha, yeah that has been my plan from the beginning. I'll just tell her that it is very safe and that will keep her happy. Thanks for your help, I'll keep everyone informed on the purchase.

Congrats on the car! Is it an auto or a manual? Cause that will make a big difference in its bottom end. I have an auto and it doesnt really start to pull until about 20 mph. Either way nice find and make sure to get those pics up man!

It is a Five Speed Manual. Not sure yet what is going on with the purchase, the guy hasn't emailed me back in 2 days! If I do get the car I will be sure to post pictures on a new thread.

No, the ES is the same as the RT and the SL, and the 90-96 base 3000gt. All of them have the DOHC 222hp. The only differences are extra options, such as fabric or leather, digital climate control, adjustable seats, etc.

Check out the FAQ, alot of stuff is covered in there, that you should read as a potentially new owner.

I thought that the ES, SL, and R/T had the same engine untill 1997 when then ES amd SL (R/T?) downgraded to a SOHC engine with around 155 hp. Pretty sure it is something like that. Oh yeah and the guy finaaly emailed me back about the car. Hopefully I will get a test drive this weekend.

Wow, count the ways this post is wrong.

1 Stealth ES ,R/T and 3000GT Base and SL all had the 222hp DOHC motor from 91-96
2 In 97 there is no Stealth of any kind
3 In 97 the 3000GT base went with the SOHC 167hp engine and the SL kept the 222hp DOHC

Hahaha, hey I have been waiting a long time for a decently quick car. Guess what my 0-60 time is in the car I drive now is. Well I'll tell you, 22 approximately. I need this car to...huh...balance that, yeah, balance...

VR43000GT
05-17-2006, 05:20 PM
Woh, what do you drive now? If it really is 22 seconds your 1/4 mile time is going to be very close to your 0-60 time...seriously.

lol

youngcaradvc
05-17-2006, 05:52 PM
It is a 1991 Subaru Loyale Wagon, about 90 horsepower. I will go time my 1/4 mile right and get back to you on that.

youngcaradvc
05-17-2006, 08:11 PM
OKay: 0-60 time is about 17ish, and 1/4 mile is about 20ish. At about 60mph.

Huh...do you have like a drag strip in your backyard or what?

Stealthee
05-17-2006, 09:01 PM
LOL. I got a strip of road when I measured off a 1/4 mile. Its a little hard to get a good time because there is a slight incline at the very end but it still gives a guage of what I am running. It also sucks because I have to make sure no one is coming up behind me before I stop dead in the road.

I actually do have a "drag strip" in my front yard. It is my neighborhood street :). How do I insert a picture without an URL? this is what I got:

to insert a pic w/o a URL (that is w/o hosting the pic via another website like photobucket.com), then you have to upload the pic into the automotiveforums.com gallery. then just copy the URL with html code before and after like this:

URL link to pic in af.com gallery

or if you decide to host pics on photobucket or anywhere else, then you do the same thing with the html code.

How do you measure exactly a 1/4 and for that matter time it too? I would think that would be hard to even get within a second, second and a half of what it is. Looks good though.

xXxRocker5150
05-20-2006, 02:26 PM
^yeap, IDK, I was gonna' say maybe he's got the g-tech thing, but that already measures out the 1/4 for ya...

TorchedStealth
05-20-2006, 02:32 PM
One of my friends did that same thing, except he didnt have any trees to hide him :icon16:. My friend measured the 1/4 mile with 3 different car's odometers, one being electronic. He maked it off and had another kid time him from in the car with a stopwatch. He got between 18 and 19 seconds, but again he was driving a 2.2 cavalier lol. I dont know about you guys, but thats how we do it in North Dakota:bananasmi

VR43000GT

I've got to hear how he measures this. Like I said you could easily be a second and a half off. Thats the difference between an SL and a VR4!

For me I usually just look at the speed I hit. As long as I hooked up at my starting point I know its going to be pretty close.

youngcaradvc
05-21-2006, 02:21 PM
I just used my odometer, probobly not very accurate. But I'm not racing so its not a big deal to me. But its slow nonetheless.
