RX7 vs Mailbu w/ boat engine

Haha. The Malibu destroyed the RX7 (Auto). I don`t know much about racing and anything of the sort but I just wanted to make this post to invite anyone in the Orange County area to this place where we have races every friday. This was brought@to my attention when one night I found a business card on my wiper telling me to go to them. All in all it was a pretty fun experience. So if anybody wants directions just PM me. The place is about 4 miles away from the Kaleidescope theater in Mission Viejo. The races are around Ladera Ranch.

Malibu with a Boat engine. Umm right.
I take it the Malibu was a Older Malibu? Like from the 60's and 70's era?
I hope the boat wasnt a Salt Water boat, cause the engine would be trashed. ...seeing as Salt water corrodes metal... and... that you'd have to replace the heads.. .before putting them into a car... ughh to much to list... dumb thing to think about...
but.....
Advertising illegal racing... Good Job!
i'd bet a small portion of my paycheck that says some form of law enforcement watches this crap for things like what you just said, So now some random guy like IMNOTASHERRIF PM's you
"Yes, I'd like to partake in these ... illegal races... how do We.. err I get there?"
"well its easy....."*Minutes Later*
"Thank you Mr. Rein Person we'll... i mean.. I'll be there friday night, Ill bring my 96 Chevy Caprice with a LT1 and pursuit package! Its really umm... neato with its Black and white paint job, its ummm Custom! yea.. Custom!!..."
Hope ya have fun Mr. McRacer! :D

key word "crate motor" its just that, You can buy 540ci engines for anything its not just strickly a Boat motor. True, some engine manuefacturers build bigger blocks for big boats but you can order a 820ci V8 from some shops.
I'll say it again... 820ci V8
Thats 13.4 Liters. In other words thats like 7.4 Honda Civics bolted together.
Gosh I love being an American!:D

boat engines can produce really good horsepower. i have seen 2.5 litre engines that put out 300hp, some much more than that, and they were just outboards. class 1 racers use 8.2 litre Lambo V12 engines puttin out 1000hp plus. and remember these things are marinised, which takes alot of hp away, demarinise them and they can be awesome.

Yeah the 2.5s by Mercury are pretty stout. The Drag racers can put nitrous on them and get 400-500hp. 2.5 Drag (http://www.mercurymarine.com/cgi-bin/mercprod/MercuryHome/Templates/performance_racing.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=no&ParentID=null&page_id=894&ProdID=23705&Area=Race%20Outboards&CurSpecPos=3&BV_SessionID=@@@@1370600689.1027649161@@@@&BV_EngineID=dadcejhlhfdjbedcfececjf.0)

... Living in UK and being surrounded by water that you'd be nautical savy. But apparently you're mistaken my friend.
Engines do not go under a Marinization so they can be put into a boat.
For example, We'll use the Chevy Vortec 350 EFI engine as our powerplant.
the ONLY thing thats different from the Street version to the Waterborne version IS:
1. Gaskets, they need to be alittle more heavier duty
2. Water pump, you need a second water pump to help pump the water from the raw water collector (if running a raw water motor and not fresh water system)
3. Exhaust manifold, they're water jacketed for cooling. They're basically headers wrapped in water tubing.
4. Fuel pump, it'll have a vent installed incase of leakage. Reason being if the pump starts to leak you're not dumping fuel into your bildge next to your HOT engine.
None of these Things prohibit performance.
The only thing that might be changed internally is the Camshaft. To whats called a RV Cam (RV meaning like a Motorhome) So they produce more torque at the lower end of the powerband.
And you have to remember that Boats are not regulated by Smog equipment so they have that Potiential to make more power than a stock motor out of a car carrying the same powerplant.
I hope i've helped inform and educate some of you. :)

just because water all around us doesnt mean that that water isnt usually very rough, AND in britain it rains....alot. But anyway, i know not all of engines are marinised, but most of them round here are, maybe cos we always use them on salt water, u have lots of lakes?? i dunno, i justknow alot are marinised.
-The Stig-

sure we have lakes.
But I live in California... On the Pacific Ocean which is Salt Water last time I checked. And we do not "marinize" our engines. And we get long life out of them as well, like 5000 hours. Yes I said five thousand, when an engine is used daily it has less chance to break. Same principle applys to your daily driver, it hardly has problems right? Well if you took your car, and didnt use it much (like some do with boats) they're reliability factor decreases.
Obviously you people in UK do things differently, so we may not see eye-to-eye on the subject. So i have no hard feelings towards you. If that makes anysense :D

hmmm... how much Boost are you running through your motor? I saw your Cam specs... dont seem to be tooo big of a cam especially for a Turbo.. although i could be wrong i'm not a T-Type expert.
If you dont want to tell me here and spill your secrets then PM me if you'd like to talk.

22 psi w/ 116. Cam is mild, this is my driver. I either bog off the line or the wheel spin is uncontrollable, so I am not sure the taller tires will help (but I am told they will).

The alky is huge man, I think I could run more boost with a bigger turbo. I need to tune it furtheer, finding grest info on the net. I really think it could be fasterr, lot of snow up here at the moment. Haven't had it out on a cold day yet, I am told it is scary fast with the dense air. No dyno.

Here in NZ we have a lot more boats than you do in the UK, and a lot of them are fitted with marinised yank V8s.
What redneck described is pretty much all thats involved, altough differnt engines to get differnt treatments he covered the basics.
Other things that may be done:
Fitting of a heat exchanger so the engine can be run on freash water, but cooled with salt water.
Differnt cylinder heads to match a differnt cam to produce more torque at lower RPM.
If no heat exchanger is used often a differnt inlet manifold (galvanised, or alloy to deter rust).
The Lambo engines you mentioned will have been specialy designed and built boat motors, Lamborghini does a lot more than just build cars.

Speaking of... what's about the time you'd least expect to see cops? like specifically... 12:30-12:45ish...?
You know, I'm just curious about these things. I'll bring my... uuh... rockin cooled out corrola and we can uuh... say bad stuff about cops and stuff and stuff... okcool?

I believe thier might be one or two of the more classic ones in the country, but I have never seen them.
I do however know someone who is importing a 1950s era Porsche Tractor.

I believe that boat engines also have stronger internals so they can withstand the waves.
