Pitmen Arm

Ok here is the deal, today we started to put my Lift Kit on. We got the passenger side on just fine. Got the driver side all apart till we came to adding the stearing arm drop on. we have to put that block on top of the kuncle. That mother wouldnt come off. there seemed to be welded on washers on top that might be holding it in. We could not figure this damn thing out. We pounded it in every direction, used heat, jacks in every spot it just wouldnt budge. We took off the shock, spring, stearing arm and the 3 nuts on top of the spindle. is there something thats holding us back. we couldnt figure it out and just got pissed off.

I would be glad to help you, but I need a little clarification on just what you are doing. If your truck is a K10, then it should have a Dana 44 front axle. Your signature says you are using a 4"lift. That means that you should NOT be adding a steering arm block OR a Drop Pitman arm. You should only need a raised steering arm (the boomerang looking part attached to the top of the Drivers steering knuckle). The steering arm is held into the top of the Knuckle by 3 studs. The three nuts on the top are only part of the battle - under those are 3 cone shaped pieces that have a notch down one side - think of them as a type of lock washer. The best thing to do is take the nuts off, and then load the areas under them with penetrating oil and let them sit overnight. Then, liberal use of a short sledgehammer and a torch to heat the arm itself will loosen them up. As a last resort, you can try to remove the studs themselves, but you run the risk of snapping them off - and you will have to replace them. Just realize that this is NOT usually easy, and the few I have done have all fought with me. The combination of oil, heat and brute force will usually overcome. Good Luck.
