My shocks worn out shocks like crazy!!! Please help!!!!!

I dropped my car aprox. 1.5”. Height from center cap to fender is about 12.7” (if I’m not wrong the stock height is 14”- Front) 95 Civic DX coupe

I installed adjustable coil-overs with a spring rate of 350 with adjustable KYB shocks. I put the shocks less than one month ago and they are already worn out.

When I first drop the car and installed coil-overs, and I kept the stock shocks. They worn out in a matter of weeks. I was told that a possible reason was that the shock piston travel was too short and that’ why the stock shock got worn out so quickly. So, I decided to invest in adj. KYB shocks, but I am having the same problem now.

But, my car is not slammed, actually there is still almost 1”light between the tire and the fender.

Could anyone help me with this? I am thinking about returning the shocks for the warranty, but I don’t want to have the same problem after installing the new ones.

What makes you think the shock is gone? Give us a list of problems.

When I first installed the shocks, handling improved a lot. The car was very responsive and not bouncy at all.

Now, after a couple of weeks, and without changing the setup, it has become much more bouncy. Actually, handling is quiet similar as when my stock shoks worn out.

I had them adjusted on level 3 (out of 4) on the front and 4 on the rear since I installed them.

CivicSiRacer, I forgot something.

I can see from your post that you are an Autocrosser. So, what do you thing of those spring rates for autocrossing (350 front 450 rear). I installed stiffer in rear to correct the understeering problem.

Are this springs too stiff. Do you think this could be the reason for the shocks being worn out so quickly?

You can't go by other people's drop. You have to measure your stock height and then afterwards. But I think you dropped your car too low, and then the springs settled and now you are running into the bumpstops. Did you cut the bump stops when you lowered your car?

I was looking at KYB AGXs and Eibach Sportlines, but Sportlines may be too low for the max drop on AGXs. Does anybody know the maximum AND recommened drop for 92-96 Prelude AGXs? Peace:D

I check with the people at KYB and they replied the following:

"KYB products have a Limited Lifetime Warranty. This warranty applies to the original purchaser of the product with a dated proof of purchase. The warranty does not apply to product that is misapplied, abused, or used in racing or commercial applications. The warranty is void if the product is used on excessively lowered (over 1.5”) vehicles or if an Aftermarket coilover shock system is used. Please contact your place of purchase, or a local KYB retailer, for warranty qualification and/or exchange.'

shit...I dont' want to void my warranty with Sportlines, which drop 1.7". But thanks, that was what I was looking for. Peace:D

See Konis are warrentied if you didn't drop your car more than 2". Everyone uses them in racing. I guess you get what you pay for.
