axle id

1997 F-150, 2 X 4, 4.6L v-8. Wondering how I find the axle (rear) id. Such as is it a Dana 44 or 60? I need a new cover since 10 years of winter salt ate a small hole through the original. Also is there any place other than a dealer or JC Whitney where I can get a new cover. The junk yards here charge around 15 bucks, and Whitney has chromed for 20. thanks.
