I gotta replace my belt on a 91 cavalier RS with the 2.2 L engine, is there a trick or secrete about doing it on this car because i just can't get it on and yes i am moving the tensioner but it isnt helping. Any help would be great please put instructions or tips. THX everyone.

It's possible that the tensioner's gone stupid on you. Consider unbolting the alternator to loosen the belt.

Yea the old tensioner broke so i put on a new tensioner and now i'm having a hard time putting on the new belt, i did rotate the tensioner but i don't see how its loosening tension on the belt.

It should turn the other end of the tensioner. If it doesn't, you may have gotten a defective replacement. Like I said, if it still won't work, you can route the belt and loosen the alternator then tighten it back down once you get the belt around the pulley.

If all else fails, just unbolt the alternator or alternator pulley and tilt it until you can pull the belt off...
