$1,500 for a 92 TSI?

So today I found a 92 Eagle Talon TSI AWD with 109k miles on her. So the body is black and looks great except a couple of areas that need some love and the interior is in great condition. Well now for the "bad news", under the hood theres an exhaust leak that has created quite the black mess under the hood and the exhaust manifold is cracked right next to the heat shield. The valve cover gasket needs to be replaced, and the timing belt has NOT been replaced. The tires have about 30% tred left and 2 of the rims are bent from hitting a pot hole really hard or something like that. O and for the even worse news, it's an AUTOMATIC...what should I do? Is the car worth it? The guy wanted $2000 and I was like IDK lol, I just wanted to laugh and say well at least you have hope. So guys what do you think? What should I offer? How much to fix whats bad? IS IT WORTH IT?

I hate AUTOMATIC Trannys but I could always do the swap if need be.

if you have all the part and can do your self, then get the car, if not just ask around how much it cost to do swap, then add that amount with the total of the car, let see how much. Just take it easy on buying these car man, pay for for what you want. good luck

Honestly, i dont feel it is worth anywhere near $1500. I think a grand would make both parties happy. BUT then again it is an automatic, and you say you will do a swap, but is it truely worth it?
The car might be worth that much depending on where you live and if DSMs are rare. If you got the money then why not, but I say just wait or bring down the price....

I would punch you in the balls if you offered me that much for that car. I say the car is worth $1,500, but I would offer him $1,200 because the timing belt hasn't been done. Your taking a chance with a motor that old and that much mileage with no timing belt job done...ever.

110k on one timing belt? Fuck man, that tells you what kind of care has been taken of the car. I would definately not do it. Wait for a manual AWD, you'll be happy you did.

I couldn't agree with you anymore then I do right now. I just like the thought of being at the line and just reving it up to like 4 grand and just dumping the clutch and having all the wheels grab the road and just throw me into the seat...a dream that I have all the time. So how hard is it to do the Auto to Manuel swap?

You could always get the tcugo thing, i was thinking of getting that for my talon. If you really want manual though i'd wait it's 1000000000000000x better.

Sounds like an alright deal. Fixing the exhaust leak/manifold is rather inexpensive as is the head gasket. The timing belt isn't cheap but it isn't expensive either. I mean if that's all it needs that isn't a bad deal.

So defiancy has to do a newbie to become one?
Oh that tcugo thing is a tcu controller for autos where you can choose when to shift via a button or paddles. Someone posted about it a while ago and i sa a review on tuners not to long ago.

I'm the one who posted a forum about this a couple months ago or so. Now it actually has a couple reviews. They seem good and detailed. I still think I want to get some IPT tranny parts( strenghtin things up a bit) and than I defiantly might have to try this bad boy out. The reviews on it really convinced me to want to get it. Right now I'm saving for reworked valve body with the translab shift kit, custum high stall converter, end clutch kit, and a tranny cooler. Can't wait to get them out of the way b/c funner mods will happen after that, front mount, tcugo, and 3 inch turbo back.
