NEW CAR BEEaches? :D

so, if you guys still remember me..since i havent been on this forum for a while.. my car got totalled by a bunch of tourists.

I got 4.5K for a '88 formula firebird, not bad actually..and added 2.5K by myself to buy a 97 Camaro!

what do you guys think of it? ~7K for a SS, yeah its a LT1 and its not as quick as the 98's but good god, it was one of my dream cars. the SS or the WS6! :D

and im still only 18. its a 6 speed/ram air


and well, i actually didnt buy it yet, im getting it tommorow in the morning..but

i have a few questions:

1) why are the gears so close together?! its hard to go 123456 i hit like 1256..etc. well neways,

2) If theres a Loan on the car, wth the car as collateral, and i purchase it, what happens? on carfax.com, it says 'loan or lien reported' wtf does that mean?

3) any inputs on what i should do?

4) theres a crack down the dash (only problem) soemone told me its a sign that it may have been in an accident..is that true? carfax gave me a 0 accident, but it COULD have been covered up, but i sure didnt see any problems on the body.. no signs of repainting, although it didnt have a dirt cover around the front wheels?

there was also no dents on the frame of the car, it was really clean overall!

Nice deal man. It can easily be made faster than a 98 +. Congrats. Also, a lien reported just means that the owner at the time had a loan on the car. Gears closer together is better for racing. You will love it once you get use to it. Also, no the crack down the dash doesn't mean it was in a accident it is very common. It just means GM used paper thin hard abs plastic with a chasis that likes to flex. My car had the same thing when I bought it and thats why dash pads sell so well on ebay.

haha thanks! the only other problem is it has altezza tailllights..and i want stocks..i cant smoke the lights cuz its a white car...

and yeah, im getting it almost 100% guarenteed :D in like 3 hrs.. shit. i cant wait to drive that sucker. :D

Congrads. I hope you got the car.

1. As far as the shifter, get a B&M ripper/Pro 5.0/etc and you'll be fine. It will take some time to get use to.

2. Carfax with a loan, that's normal

3. There are so many things you could do to it, but I would suggest you do subframes/lca/panhard rod bar/strut tower brace/etc then intake/catback/headers/etc.

4. Dash, no idea, maybe another poster has the answer.

Im going to Univ. of Hawaii right now. its pretty boring, since im only in the first year.. (just finished finals! and got me the car)

haha i just took her around the block..i never realized how smooth the powerband on it was till i got it up past 4K!! now i can terrorize my streets again.. lol

as for exhausts, it seems like it has a 4" pipe? im pretty sure the SLP guys did some things to it, since its a SS..

it also has the 'short shifter' thing so the gears seem even closer..well, time to make some $$ working and buy some sweet parts!!

Nice. I have an Assc. of Applied Science in Quality Control and a certificate in Non-destructive Testing from Spartans College of Aerospace and Technology. I work for Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne in West Palm Beach FL and I am going to start back in school for Mechanical Engineering in the fall.

I was just wondering how you liked engineering so far? Did you have any core classes yet? Do you know what branch of Engineering you are going into?

well, i didnt take any of the ME courses yet, except for physics..and the other blank credits i need like english and stuff are really boring.. im not sure what part of ME im going into, but a lot of my friends are going into thermo..so maybe..? haha, i still have to decide..

thats sweet, Florida! i had fun there.. only visited a few places + disney world! thats basically all i remember of florida. haha and the heat! its hotter/humider then hawaii in some places @_@;
we pissed off our hotel maid cuz we set the thermostat at like 40..

That's cool man. I keep my thermo at 78-80*. :lol: I have all the general classes out of the way, so I'm not worried about that. Its the main classes including calc1-3, physics/etc I have to take.

You cant see it, but the tires in the back are 285s.. not the original 275s.. :]

DarkBlue, yeah, that car is SICK. i cant believe its so fast. haha after i hit 60 in 2nd gear or so i almost crapped myself. its the first powerful stick car i bought..

very nice, and those gauges are really good looking too..oh and if you wanna get some stock tailights you could probably find some cheap in the used parts forum on fbody.com just in case your in a hurry to get rid of them..

Nice car man! Get the stock lights.

As far as the 2-3 shift...with the car off...put the shifter in 3rd. Put your hand on it. Visualize...feel where your arm/hand location is at. Then push in the clutch and do a few 2-3 shifts quick. Start out slow and get faster. You'll have that shift down in no time.

As far as the 3-4...put your hand out with your palm facing the passenger side. When you pull back, you will go into right into 4th without worryin' about going into 2nd gear.

The TA was fun...its minus the engine right now but when it gets put back together, it will be sick :)

haha sweet dude. yeah your TA sounds bad ass. i want to get a bunch of mods on my car but i think i need to get out of college first.. it drains my $$ like nothing else. >_<; not to mention if im in college, i cant be working full time..
