I have a 1999 Ram 2500. The tranny seems to hang in second, when I take my foot off the gas it will jump into 3rd. The check engine light is on but this could be a separate issue. Any ideas where to start?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Find out why the check engine light is on first .

the check engine light is most likely on because of a bad speed sensor, makes the tranny run iin limp mode. check the codes to confirm it.

On a separate issue, but the same area i have a tranny question also. Going down the interstate and hit certain bumps it revs up and then drops down.
Any ideas?? It is a 98 Ram 2500
Thx in Advance

The soleniods in the valve body are bad, common problem.Get the check engine light scanned first. Also get the bottom transmission line towards the radatior checked, the rubber hose part and there is a nylon checkball inside that line. The problem with that checkball,it melts and plugs up the line right up resulting in a burned up transmission.Change the transmission filter also since the the fluid is being replaced

4 big things with the Dodge truck tanny.
1st.…. 99's have a high output speed sensor failure rate
DIY fix out side of trans by the transfer case deep 1" socket is all that is needed. You will loose fluid so be quick on changing it out. Can set a SES light. Usually causes all kinds of shift problems and goes into limp mode.
2nd…… transducer/Governor solenoid go bad.
DIY fix have to drop the pan. replace both save your self the headache. Can set SES light. low speed 1-2 2-1 1-2 2-1 shifts (less then 12mph) plus other complaints
3rd…. ..Inner seal on the Direct (3rd) clutch pack shrinks into the grove.
If this happens its time for a overhaul. Late 2nd to 3rd shift.
4th …. . If it’s a diesel they have a tendency to rattle the TPS to death which will cause shift concerns. Such as falling out of 4th and unlocking of the TCC.

I have heard but bad things about Cottman transmission.Everyone of them changes owners two or three times.I heard this from a Jasper engines/transmissions rep I know that comes in my father's shop once in a while.Torque converters are not rebuildable, replace the whole thing.Specify the engine size too,the 318 converter is differant from a 360 converter:the 360 converter has a counter weight on it
