Hey I just went down to walmart today and found sony xplode speakers and subwoofer for like a total of 100.00 Now I haven't shopped around yet for speakers but the color scheme was cool. ( red and black like my car) Now I don't want a thump thump system like that but I just wanna get more feeling out of my music ( tool, korn, etc) . Would be better going off to a shop to do it for me or is this pretty much easy to do with common knowledge. If it helps I have a 96 civic cx hatch that is meant mostly for autocross/daily driver that is going to get a b18c next spring. For now I'm taking care of the interior and exterior. Interior is going to be black and red and exterior is going to have a simple front spoiler with a fresh red paint job. Thanx guys:D

If you dont listen to music with alot of bass then dont bother with a sub-woofer. I'm not sure what size speakers you have, probly 6.5's but i'm not sure. X-plod's aren't bad, but alot of people I talk to don't like them. Just get some 2-way or 3-way component speakers, they are easy to install, 2 wires to connect. I think the head unit is just a wiring harness, but I could never figure out how to get it out of the dash, so I had it done. He threw it in for like $20. Good luck

crystal mobilesound components (6.5") for $99 at sounddomain. better than any sony speakers you'll encounter. still too much? get the Crystal mobilesound 2 way coaxial speakers for only $59-69
Component:
http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/CRYCPE60
Coaxial:
http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/CRYCXE610
-or-
http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/CRYCXE615
the difference between the first 2way coaxial and the second 2 way coaxial is that the second one handles a tad more power and will respong to lower frequencies better. all for only $10 more. these speakers are truely amazing. one of the best band for the buck.

My Personal Opinion Sony Xplod Speakers are ok... I think some of their subwoofers are ok...
I'm a fan of crisp sound and I found that in Rockford Fosgate I was very very impressed with there sound. Alpine are good speakers good but I was very impressed with Rockford Fosgate

yes you can do that (take off the grill), but then there are more chances of dust and other objects getting into the speakers, killing the voice coil.

WOW ... somebody is actually getting it. Looking nice is good, but car stereo is really about music - you know, the way it SOUNDS.

i would look into infinity perfects if i were you. or image dynamics. very good SQ subs. i had some RF hx2 12's and i didn't think they would be very good for rock because they are more boomy and not really SQ oriented. of course i had 2000watts goin through them during burps:D

or you can just take some Crystal CMPx2 and send them 2000+ watts and it'll take it all day long while it still sounds good:devil:
i would indeed take the IDMAX because its so beautiful. or maybe some Adire Audio Brahma. muahaha:finger:

it SHOULD be...but anyways, i heard the Brahma has the lowest distortion rate of any sub out there making it a good candidate for SQ setups while it also has the greatest Xmax which is good for SPL.
i would also take the Inhuman. the 10" version is my favorite. it looks mean!!

are those the ones with the big ass magenets? yea well i thought when dan was designing the brahma that he was tring to make a strictly SPL sub. i didn't know that it had a low enough distortion rating to compete with the w7 and idmax tho.

yes its a monster:D
adire audio is a sound quality company. just like Image dynamics, they get loud too. i like the looks of their subs. they are ugly, which is good for me. people expects the unexpecting of those looking subs. plus i like the price:finger:

darnit, i wrote this long post and then the server spat out a "too busy" error and it got lost! Oh well.
Okay. here's the short deal - Sony Xplod equipment has better-than-stock, but not-much-better sound quality. I've done lots of installations and upgrades with and to-replace Sony Xplod equipment. All in all, I don't think it provides enough sound quality for the buck.
A Used Alpine 7800 series or 7900 series head unit (make sure you get one with a built-in amp, unless you plan on going all-amps) makes for great sound quality. Alpine hardware is normally quite expensive, but when you get used to the very high quality of their equipment, it's almost impossible to listen to anything less.
Diamond M3 or CM3 speakers would do you extremely well. They operate beautifully with as little as 20w of power, and can take either 110 or 170 RMS. It's the lowest end speaker made by Diamond, and it beats the highest-end made by Sony - Even their Mobile ES series. Atop that, they're ALL-black, which would go well with your interior.
It's been about a year since I installed M3's for someone, but I remember them being like $80-$100 per pair. Sounds like a lot compared to those Xplod's? Buy just one pair and hook them up. Compare them to the other pair of speakers you have and see how long you can wait before you replace them too :)

Well I am looking for speakers that I could have a circut city or best buy install. But then if it is a easy install maybe I'll do it myself. I don't really like buying used equipment but I'll look into everything, hey thats have the long is learning.:D

Go for infinity, boston or polks!!!! You won't regret it! I got the polk ex 6.5 in the front and the 6x9's in the back and it's sounds real sweet! Then again it all depends on your musical tastes! Just putting my 2cents :bandit:

LISTEN to them before you buy them ......... speakers make the biggest difference in the way the system will sound (as far as equipment goes)

the only thing that sucks about going to the local store is that they don't have those other brand names such as Dynaudio, CDT audio, Focal, etc. some of these brand's affordable line are even better than say polk's top of the line and cost less. sometimes, you just gotta go by other people's opinions..:(

I guess I am just saying that they all have a different tonal quality, what you like - I may not.

WTF?! That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard! Deffinitely pick up a sub or two if you've got the cash! I can tell you that Korn and Tool or any kind of music sound way better with a set of subs than without, so don't settle for a weak-ass 6.5" only setup! But, don't go get some 15" subs, cuz those are pretty much only good for low-bass rap and stuff... 10" is a great size for rock, nice punchy bass. 12's would be OK too, but still kinda boomy.
