Anyone know how much fuel is left in the tank once the low fuel light comes on? This is an auto, V6 Alero.
I know with my Ford I have about 3 gallons left in the tank when the light comes on but just curious about my wifes Alero. Thanks

I believe it's right around 1.5-2 gallons. That's pretty typical for most GM vehicles.

Yeah, I agree. I think it's got 1.5 gallons. However, I wouldn't run your car that low on fuel all the time. There is a chance the fuel pump can overheat and you'll find yourself needing to replace that.

That sounds about right. The tank capacity is 14.1 gallons. When our light comes on it takes about 12 gallons to fill it up.
However, I would not depend on the accuracy of when the low fuel light comes on and whether you really have that much fuel left, especially while on a trip and you are out in the middle of nowheres. When the light comes on it is recommended to get to a gas station as soon as possible. The problem stems from the fuel level sending unit and float getting inaccurate of a period of time or as the car ages. Also, you can have the opposite effect. When the light comes on you could have more than 1.5 - 2.0 gallons. So it will vary for each Alero.

Only way to sort of tell, is to go to the gas station as soon as the tank light comes on. Then just calculate the gallons left. your tank holds 14 gallons.
Shortly after my light comes on, if I fill it, i can normally put in 11 gallons....if i wait about 10 miles though, my guages goes back to 3/4 or full, so u just gotta pay attention :)

Up here in Canada, it hold about 42 litres....I never let it get much past a 1/4 of a tank due to the fuel pump potetial issue.
A friend of mine has a 02 malibu, very similar, ran the tank down frequently, and the fuel pump went. Ouch :banghead: $250 later....

You mean you ran it out of gas 4 times?
Once would have been enough for me.
