Service Engone in 1200 Miles (c240)

The light that comes on says that the engine has to be serviced in 1200 miles. When this rolls around, am I going to have to go to the dealer andd shell out thousands. I certainly dont want to have the annoying light on all the time after i hit 1200 since this car is very good at getting your attention when something is wrong.

That indicator lamp coming on is part of the FSS system (Flexible Service System). It means that your car is getting close for its Service Interval, either service "A" or "B". Service "A" is a minor service, Service "B" is an major service.

You want to know how to reset the light - right? Its in the owners manual
Its a bit touchy but here are the steps
1) turn key to position 2
2) within 4 seconds press button 0 twice
3) status is displayed - within 10 seconds turn key to positon 0
4) press and hold button 0 while turning key back to position 2
5) The status is displayed but continue to hold button 0 - after 10 seconds
a busser sounds and the new maintance life is displayed:uhoh:
If you have the newer type with an instrument cluster and buttons on the steering wheel, it is simpler
apparently you know how to get to the service interval reading.
From there, press and hold the button that resets the mileage
When the screen says "do you want to reset the service interval"
Release the button and press it again and hold until it resets.
