1988 Millenia Acceleration trouble

I bought this car from my aunt in really good condition about 5 years ago. this problem seems to have gotten progressively worse in the past few years. there is aprox 120k miles on the car.

for as long as i can remember i have had the check engine light on. my aunt said its because she had the oil changed, or something minor done, but didnt feel like paying the extra money ot have the light shut off. only now am i starting to doubt that.

when i accelerate, the car will be REALLY jumpy. even a few times, the engine has rev'd while the car slowly acclerates.. and i mean slowly.. like hardly accelerating at all. if i accelerate while turning onto a road, i always have jumpy acclerations. sometimes i feel like the rpms are allowed to get to high before shifting. i'm figuring this is a transmission problem but maybe its an air intake or computer? about two years ago i had to replace a rubber part that was cracking and giving an uneven air inlate to the engine, which was when i first so the jump acceleration. that seemed to go away upon replacing the part but now it seems to have returned.

any ideas whats wrong ? oh yeah, this is NOT the S model.

Why dont you stop by an AutoZone and get someone to read the code(s) for you with a code reader. That might explain your acceleration issues. If you fixed one acceleration problem by replacing an air hose, I would bet that you have one or two more that are leaking vacuum--which is the #1 reason any Mazda has hesitation or poor acceleration issues. It could be vaccume leaks / breaking down plugs and wires / oil in your spark plug holes due to leaking valve cover gaskets. Various things but if you keep driving you will destroy your catalitic converters. $2000+ problem. Take it to the dealer and let the pros fix it.
