My dad called me tonight asking about a truck he repossed a month or so ago. It ran fine when the weather was cold but now won't idle. He was asking about the K&N air filter and how to clean it(he said it was caked in oil) I told him not to reoil it because that oil screws up the mass airflow sensor which is what I am assuming the problem is. However he can't seem to find the MAF. The truck is 150 miles away so I can't help him, I told him they have to be between the air filter and the throttle body but I am not familiar with this particular truck. It is the 5.9L. Any help is appreciated.

A 2002 ram does not use a mass airflow sensor . I would start with cleaning the oil out of the throttle body and replacing the air filter .

Thanks for the replies.
If you oil them, don't over oil it and you will be alright. I would get an airaid or AEM intake they use dry filters that you can wash with soap and water and are cheaper than K&N.
With the 02 Ram I was talking about I was assuming he had tried to run the truck without the air filter on to rule that out but apperantly not because once it was cleaned it ran ok.
