'96 Accord Power Door Lock Problems

The driver's side rear door lock (power) sounds like it's working but it won't lock or unlock the door, it has to be done manually. I took the panel off and looked back to where the mechanism is, but can't tell what is going on. I didn't want to attempt to take it apart without knowing what I was doing. Where do I find directions on how to R&R the power lock motor and trouble shoot it?

You can get some basic directions in the Chilton/Haynes type books. I changed all four of the door lock actuators in my Honda. The unit is pretty well housed in one unit, personally I did not want to try and repair it. The age of the unit was old enough I figured it should just be replaced. Part generrally runs about $80 or so. I usually get my Honda parts from Majestic Honda or Torrington Honda. Both are back east but the prices are better than I can get through dealers here. The repair itself isn't very difficult, the working of all the screws in such a small place can be aggrevating though. I did it four times and spent probably 6-8 hours total time to do it, mostly one the first one since I had never done this repair before. I probably saved $800+ in a repair bill by doing it myself, they wanted $200 per door just to take the panel off and run one of their famous diagnostics on the part. By the time they would have been done with replacing all the units it would have been around $325+ per door.

I have used both of the dealers above and both send new Honda parts and process the orders in a timely manner. If the dealers in your area don't want to work with you on price I recommend Torrington and Majestic.

Good luck.
