I'm sure this has been covered before, but here goes. My 97 Tahoe will not come out of park with the ignition on. Where is the solenoid that locks the tranny in park located?

The stop lamp switch and the park/nuetral switch control the power to the solenoid.

Well, I fixed the symptom but not the problem by removing the rod connecting the locking solenoid to the gear selector arm. Automatic transmissions went for fifty years without having to press the brake pedal to move out of park, so I guess my truck is a little "retro" now. I suspect the brake switch cluster is the culprit behind it all, but as long as the brake lights work I'm not going to replace that beast (AGAIN)!
