Quick question about fuel filters

I have a 98 astro, after removing the fuel filter I tried to blow through it to see if it was plugged, I could not blow through it hardly at all, I'm blowing the right direction, I was just wondering if they are supposed to be free flowing or restricted because of the 60+ psi of the fuel pump, I have a 91 GM truck w/TBI and the fuel filter for that flows free, the filters look the same but ya never know.
the van has a suspected bad fuel pump, and I figure it very well is bad because from experience with my truck, if you run low on fuel or run with a clogged fuel filter it will burn the pump up. any input would be greatly appreciated.

A clean fuel filter should pass air very easily. If you drained the filter and and tried to blow through it, and it required about as much pressure as inflating a balloon, if it probably restricted - Either that, or you need to cut down from smoking nine packs of Chesterfields every day while working in the mercury mines.

Get a new filter (since you'll need one anyway) and try blowing through it before you install it. You should notice a substantial difference.

Thanks Bowtie, I thought so, just on the offhand chance there was somthing different about the newer years, I feel stupid for asking, but what the hey,
I used to be pretty good with 70's era muscle cars but keeping up with the newer stuff I have not,
Now I have to go buy the stupid tool to disassemble the fuel lines so I can finish the fuel pump change as well.
