is it possible to run a injector by just hot wiring it to a toggle?
how much voltage do i need to spark a plug?
is there such thing as a non EFI injector? what is it called where can i get one?

You could activate an injector with a toggle, but it will need to be a very low flow injector with high pressure; like 30 psi or so. You need about 13,000v to make a hot enough spark to ignite a fuel mixture; probably more since your exhaust has very little oxygen. Some coils produce as much as 53,000v. there are non-EFI injectors. Mechanical injectors rely on a timed pump that spins like a distributor off the engine. Instead of supplying 60 psi of fuel to electronic injectors that cycle open and closed, mechanical injectors get squirts of fuel from rotating high pressure pump/distributor. You're probably better off using an EFI injector.

Actually, you're better off not constructing a federally banned assault weapon. Its a federal felony just to possess it, let alone use it for throwing flames. A really pissy law enforcement officer could end up sending you to a federal penitentiary for a minimum 15 year prison sentence. Its the same class of offense as the Unabomber would be charged with. Enjoy :grinno:

if what you are looking for is a flame thrower out of the exhaust, they sell propane systems for just this effect. Yes, you will spend a bit of money on the system, but its a much simpler, cleaner system than attempting to hobble something together....and much safer than using fuel through an injector as you're discribing.

There is a fine line between too much fuel, causing a lot of negative issues. On a carb'ed engine, its pretty easy to cause a rich exhaust system for this type of desired effect.

If you have the skills, building your own propane injection system is very easy and cheap.

Best thing to do is stop watching stupid video's of cars that have it done as it was only for effect in the video and back in the 50's. Today however it highly illegal both on and off road and show use. It doesn't matter where your car is if a cop sees you throwing flames out the tailpipe he'll arrest you on the spot without question. Best thing to do is take the money you would waste on the flamethrower setup and spend it on something else for your car that won't get you slapped in prison.

How about a larger regulator and hoses on your propane can. Those little cans aren't designed to flow much gas at all. Maybe get a cylinder of propane or mapp gas like is used on little torches. They flow a bit more.

what he said. The systems I've seen would shoot out a 4-6 foot flame.....I hope thats enough...?

propane burns just as well as gas....going to gas won't automatically give you bigger flame.

as for the legality of it. All I gotta say is, duh?

Puts a new meaning to lighting an ass under your fire.
