Hey
Iv been searching and reading all weekend, and still no luck. I just finished building my new motor for my 92 RST AWD. I put the motor in, with new plugs and wires. The car took a while to start but eventually did, was working great! Backed it out of the garage let it idle for a while, then shut it off. Went to start it again and nothing. Its turning over, and getting fuel. So i checked the spark. I have spark on cylinders 2 and 3, but absolutly nothing on 1 and 4. Im stumped. I changed the coil packs twice, was going to try a different module, but they are different in 90 than 92...(90 is a 5 pin connector and 92 is an 8 pin connector.) Im not sure what else to try. I checked all known fuses and whatnot. But im not sure why i have spark in 2 and 3 but not in 1 and 4. Any info would be awesome! thanks!

I know you said you switched out coil packs already, but it really sounds like thats your problem when your not getting spark on 1 and 4, becuase those run off the same side of the coil from what I've been told. 2 and 3 run off the other side.

Could be the transistor pack. Thats the root of alot of ignition issues

I agree it sounds like its the coil pack on 1 and 4, but it still wont work. The coil coils i tried using were from car that run so i know that coils are fine. Other than a bad wire, what else could there be? The ignition module controls the coils...telling them when to come on or turn off. I was hoping to splice a harness from the 90 talon i have to my 92 so i can use a ignition module from a 90. But there are a couple extra wires...Thanks for helping!

Have you tried the cam angle sensor? If you hv a spare lying around's it's not a bad idea, my eclipse (with a 6bolt) was way off on base timing and the cas was bad and i wasn't getting spark on 2 and 3.

Hey I fixed it! Yes i tried the cam angle sensor. It turned out to be the ignition module. I was testing it with a meter like the haynes manual describes. And was getting the proper readings. But i was convinced thats what it was, so i spliced a harness plug from a 90 talon onto the 92 and used a 90 module. The car started after a couple tries and is working great now. The only problem now is i have major idle surge. So ill have to look into that tonight...Thanks for the help everyone!

P.S. I have no tach now. The 90's tach wire came from the coil, and on the 92 it came from the ignition control module. Because i used an old module and had to rewire it, does anyone know how to hook up the tach to the coil. Im assuming that i can just run the wire from the 92 harness to the coil/plug from the 90 coil. I know that prob sounds confusing as hell, but any onfo would be great! Ill mess round with it and let yas know how it goes!
