cowl hood

Anybody know where I can get a 4" cowl at a reasonable price? I looked on Summit and ebay and some of those prices are kinda crazy...plus shipping...ugh. I have to get an air cleaner on the car to pass inspection. And I'd have to paint the damn hood, too...paintchips.com? Maybe?

u could look on ebay but u will be had on shipping. i'd say go to a local car show/swap meet (carlisle, pa car shows for example). i went to the spring show and people were sellin goodmark hoods for like 200-300 bucks.

how much you willing to pay? theres a couple okay ones i saw on ebay for around 300. i think they're all 4 inch though. i'd definetly go 3

it doesn't have to be painted to go through inspection lol it has to have an AIR CLEANER, therefor i need a cowl hood. my carb barely clears the stock hood as it is.

Just paint it black and call it carbon fiber like the ricers do! (When you get the cowl of course)

HEY he was trying 2 help. And seriously it's a bad thing 2 drive your car without a airfilter. That's why it's in there 2 begin with. I wouldn't even dare driving my car without a filter, didn't u just a new engine, why would u risk fucking it up.

05-09-2006, 03:50 PM
Yeah that's all working great now...I took it through inspection this morning to see what would happen and the idiots there couldn't tell if I had a carb or not. Eventually the supervisor came over to me and told me they couldn't bring up the computer so it was going to take a few minutes. They eventually figured it out, but it was just so funny watching the three of them crouching down because they couldn't figure out how to open my hood all the way. lol

You know, I said "kids" loosly, if it caused that much of an offense I do apologize.
But, you can go to pepboys or anywhere else and by a generic air cleaner for well under $20, or what about that swap meet you were just at? :dunno: Literally almost every table at every swap meet I go to has one, then there thosse tables where that's all they sell, cleaners, covers, pans, etc.
All it takes is one peice of metal, like a loose chip to get in the engine bay when the hood gets opened or off the road, get's sucked into the intake, down into a cylinder and blows a whole the size of Rhode Island into a piston.
As an aspercreame using old fart, I've seen this back in the day, you know when you went to the dime store with a dollar and came home with a boat load of goodies :lol2: Shit please, I'm not that old, Jim, bail me out here

if your waiting to spend a bunch of money on a air filter u should at least get something in the mean time but when u got the cash get one where the top can let in air also if your goign with carb, you can suck so much more air in that way

I was referring to my options..
92 Camaro - Full of trouble but yet fun.. have to drive with the heater on so it wont overheat..
93 F250 - Guzzles gas, lately has been making some weird noises, and I almost forgot, has no windows.
00 F150 - Runs alright needs some maintanace and currently has the check engine light on..
03 Monte Carlo - Runs great, saves gas, no problems what so ever, also attracts attention from everybody, its my 2nd love.

FWD donut is easy.. put it in reverse, turn the wheel to lock, whale on the gas and hang on for the ride, they will spin quite fast and if they are balanced nicely they will pivot on the rear axle.
Anyway, I think the issue in this thread is lack of space for the air cleaner under the stock hood, thats why a cowl hood is sought. Personally, I think 4" is too much, and its not legal here, but 3" is, barely.

Hell I've got my choice of vehicles, but I know what it's like only having one car and needing it to work, no matter what. About the fwd donuts, just get a couple of trays from a fast food place and put them under the back wheels and pull the e-brake, lots of fun.

Thank you. Yes, that's the issue. It's not because I'm lazy and don't want to buy an air cleaner, it just won't fit!!:banghead: And until I get the extra $400 for a hood, I'm gonna have to deal with it!:frown:

I remember when I did it, I took off my hood because I couldnt reach all the way in the back, so I took the thing off and man.. wasnt I surprised when I tried to carry the hood by myself.. that thing WEIGHS ALOT.
