Completed this one a few months back, thought I’d let you guys on here take a look. Tamiya Nissan 350Z Track, wasn’t a particularly good kit in my opinion. The body was molded perfectly fine (although mine had a few issues here and there), and the interior was very good, the chassis plate let the kit down tremendously. The metal axels reminded me of some old 1/43 diecast toy I had as a child, and the underchassis details look all wrong at certain angles.

The body also had, more then normal for tamiya, mold lines. Took a bit of sanding off. I painted the body using Holts Dupli Colour le mans sunset orange, and cleared with automotive clear lacquer. Pictures have a slight blue tint, I messed up the white balance as I was taking them, so the colour is actually a true A17 LeMans Sunset.

The kit went together all OK, but I’d hoped for more with this, after Tamiya gave us the 300Zx, I’d expected more. This is a classic case of corner cutting, and trying to get model building appealing to a newer type of builder.

See if you can all spot Tia (my collie dog) contribution to this model. Hint – Look around the windscreen.. LOL

I'm in love.
Awesome job. Crisp detailing.
Is that the kit-supllied antenna?
Also, do you have any interior pictures?
Finally a 350z pure and simple, devoid of body kits and weird front ends!

You should be proud:)

Exceptionally clean build as usual.

Looks wonderful. You just need to fix the direction of the tires.

Turned out quite well for such a shit kit, hey. The color must be gorgeous, too bad it didn't come out in the photos. And tell your dog not to crack anymore brittle clear parts.

Thanks for all the great comments guys.

If anyone wants to see some more of the interior, these are all the progress pictures.

I wanted to just build the model straight out the box, nothing complicated, just as you’d buy from a dealer. The crack in the clear plastic is actually a dog hair. I pulled it out with tweezers after I’d seen it in the pictures. It got stuck in the white glue. LOL Willimo, you are the first to actually make a comment about it. Good eye.

As for the tyre direction, not sure what you mean. As for is the kit worth the price, if you like the car, then you’d perhaps forgive or ignore the short comings, and still buy it as this is what I did. But for £17.99 in the UK, and you can buy the full detailed 300ZX for £9.99 then no it’s simply not worth the asking price.

Next model is a Pennzoil R34 Skyline (full detail with CF), completed a few weeks back, so keep an eye out in the motor sports completed section.

Edit - Oh and I made the antenna out of old heated sprue, as the UK version of the 350Z has one, so thought it would be nice to include this as well.

In this picture, the tires that are on top. The rear one needs to be turned around since it is facing the wrong way. Very minor detail.

To my eyes, only the left rear tyre is on properly. The others need to be turned around on the rims. When viewed from above, the V's in the tyre patterns should look like arrows pointing forward (this is a 'self cleaning' tread design)- so from undernieth, the V arrows should all point rearwards. And while you're at it, strip that kit chrome off the wheels and repaint them! :grinyes:

Another terrific build from you Mick- clean and beautifull!

So let me guess, you've got a 300ZX built up, too?

Nice clean build!!!

I agree with MPWR...the tread pattern should point forward when viewed from above --> they should point backwards from underneath...just look at a real car (those tires have directional arrows on the side...may even be on the Tamiya tire ;-)

Ah,

I know what you mean now. That’s easy enough to fix. I’m not a 1:1 tyre fitter so didn’t even notice, just as well from the looks if it. LOL

MPWR, yep, the 300ZX was built 8 months ago I think now. Here is the link to it –

http://www.pictureparking.com/show_gallery.php?gid=1983 I did post it, but it was a while ago. One of my first models, and the first time I’d used automotive paint, and nearly killed myself with paint fumes in the process, and promptly bought breathing gear afterwards.

And your right about the kit chrome wheels. I should have stripped and painted Alclad II. I’m slowly starting to hate model chrome wheels myself. They do look too bling bling at times.
