I have an 06 Cobalt SS SC. When I take off in a race I have a lot of trouble shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. I thought it was just me but my friend raced last night and he had the same problem. It is really hard to put it in 2nd. It only does it while racing. It shifts normal when at normal speeds. Does anyone know why this is happening???

what do you mean...hard to put into second? or when you put it in second it sits for a minute before it catch's?
if its the second one then ur clutch is prob havin trouble keeping up...if you wanna race buy a racing clutch dont tear up ur stock one, its not designed for shifting at 5500 RPMS (or whatever Perfect Shift Time for cobalts are)
Edit: just re-read your post its the first thing...and i cant help you with that...try checking your shifter. check the cables and see if it might be gettin caught on something (when ppl race they tend to shift really hard and mabye your catching something under the center consol like a piece of plastic that sticks out)

Be very firm with the shift and get the clutch in ALL the way. Unlike all the other gears while where you can just blip the clutch, 1st-2nd you really need to get some grunt into it. Also, don't take the revs all the way to 6400, try shifting at 5500 rpms. That'll make it a bit easier.

Now, it's none of that. It can just be a pain in the ass to jam in from 1st-2nd on a hard high rpm shift. It's just the car. Poly tranny mounts and motor mounts will really help this a lot. www.jbodyperformance.com can help.
