Sony DVD/CD burner problem (not recognizing disks)

I have a Sony DVD±RW DRU-530A burner and I'm having major problems. I've tried 5 or 6 burning programs (3 different versions of Nero and a bunch of free progs). I've also tried a few different CD-R's and DVD+R's from various manufacturers.

I will get my song in a list (of my band's music, not copywrited stuff) and click Burn on a prog, with a blank CD-R in the drive, and it will say that there isn't a blank disk in there. I made sure to update all the drivers and firmware for the drive. I made sure the "IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service" is turned on to the Automatic setting. My Device Manager sees the drive and says it's working properly. Went to the AutoPlay setting for the drive and clicked the "Prompt me each time to choose and action" for the Blank CD selection, and then put a few blank disks into the drive and nothing happened (nothing popped up to ask me what to do, like it should). If I put a data disk in there it works fine, but no burning or recognizing any blank media. I've had this burner for a few years now, and never had a problem up until about 6 months ago (trying to take care of it now).
:wtf:

mine does that, i think it's because i hit the thing regularly. otherwise, just don't buy sony, i wont in the future.

Try flashing it with the latest firmware.

Already tried the newest firmware for it, and still nothing. Think I'm going to just take it apart tomorrow...screw it.

Yes, Sony does suck. My ps2 doesn't work anymore either, but that's a whole other story.
