97 3.1L V6 123K miles police/taxi
Mine idles around 900-1000 both in Drive and Park. Is this a little too fast?
Thanks.

A bit...does it feel like it is running away if you let it roll in gear with no gas applied?

When my TPS went bad the idle was too high, and the shifts were a bit funky, sometimes. Then other times it was fine.

I have an idling problem. The first time I noticed it was after driving on highway about 30 minutes. Idling at stop light was 1600 rpm in Drive and >2000 in Neutral. The car was like on steroid. (This doesn't happen during short local trips)

I cleaned Idling Air Controller. No change. I replaced IAC and MAF from a donor car. I haven't driven the car for 30 continuous minutes yet. Now idling speed is about 900-1000. Shouldn't it be about 600-700? (without AC or light)

This is my second Lumina. I remember replacing Throttle Position Sensor on my first Lumina. I don't remember why I replaced it though. How high was the idle when TPS went bad on you? By the way, there is no error code.

Thanks.

Mine was idling at 1200-1600, I first noticed it when I nearly ran through a stop sign, and thought there was something wrong with the brakes:eek:

Then I saw how high the idle was, and when I pulled away, it would run along at about 35 mph without my foot on the gas, and the transmission was hanging a long time before shifting. I shut it off and restarted, and it was normal again, but started doing it within a few minutes.

After doing it for a few miles, the CEL set and stayed on until I replaced the TPS.

So far so good. I think either IAC or MAF was faulty. I cannot tell which because I replaced both at the same time. I just hope to find a way to lower idling from 900-1000 to around 700. But no error code. Thanks.

Mine idles 900-1000 with no issues in shifting and no CEL either.
I always wondered if that was a bit high but I just let the beast do her thing.
I have a 95 3.1 with 150K.
The only she really has is the hard shift into Drive or Rev from Neutral. She slams in so hard, it almost kills the engine sometimes.
