I my self have a lot of respect for america power but you gotta see the
350z is only a 3.5 V6 compare to a LS1 5.7 or 4.6 these are huge
displacment i think the 350 is doing a good job. as for top end power
156 mph 160 is pretty damn fast if i don't recall the 2003 ford svt that 390hp six speed top out 155mph
and the 350z is more then capable of high 13s with a good driver:flash:

Ya know spec...the displacement thing is something I have mentioned in other places and been shot down on. I see your point. Where the argument has failed for me is when I try and point out how well the stang does with a 4.6 vs. the 5.7 of the F bodies when F body guys start dogging on Ford. Nissan has done a good job taking an off the shelf motor and getting it to run good. Drives me nuts though that Ford only puts out the GT with 260 when 300 would be easy. They could get closer to the high high 300's with the 5.7 in the F bodies with little work. I guess its the corporate economy insurance blah blah stuff that keeps them low. I wonder how much more they could get out of the Z NA?
I imagine a gov or limiter was all that was stopping that Cobra btw.

I'm not too knowledgable on the displacement issue. Could somebody explain it in simplified terms.

i think he means its harder to get high power out of a smaller displacement than a big displacement because high power will put the internals under more pressure than they would be in in a bigger engine. i think thats what merc50 etc. meant, but im not certain.

They can always put more, but they have to limit themselves to keep the price down, emmissions down and ALSO to keep the pecking order correct. GM can make the 5.7 with 405hp (ZO6), but they can't have that same engine in the F-bod because we can't have the camaro getting too close to the vette performance wise. Same as the stangs, the base is 260, but then with the cobra, cobra-r, an multiple levels of Rousche and Salleen packages, it pretty much covers260-385hp level.
Its gonna be even harder now here in california since grey davis signed that tree-hugging emmissions reducing bill.
