Is it possible to order a transmission straight from a dealership? I always wondered this. Oh about how much would it cost? A regular 5 sp? a lsd 5 sp? a vlsd 5 sp?

You can try but a year or so ago when mine was replaced it took the dealership 2-1/2 weeks to locate a new tranny for my 96. they are not just sitting around ever where so you will have to look. I think you would be better off getting one from canada (vlsd) probably pay about the same and take you the same amount of time to locate one.

You can get them from the dealer, but they are NOT new. They are rebuilt. Your best bet is to find one that is used with low miles from a parts distributor. I bought one a year ago for my '99 for a $1000, it was out of a totaled '98 with only 1,500 miles on it. I'd recommend doing this over getting one from the dealer. On my old max, a '91, it took 4 dealer tranny's before I got a good one. One that didn't make noise, as if it was about to break.

ya man, it's a parts dismantaler/distributor. they do national searches with other dismantaler's to find the part/s you're looking for. The place I went to was Jamie's Auto Dismantling in Fresno CA, phone #559-233-4674. if you can't find one near you, call them, they should be able to help. it's a good place, no bs, if you know what i mean.

just replaced the tranny. If you need a mechanic, I've got the best one. Ravor Motor Sports, phone #559-733-4711, ask for Vernon. Tell 'em Josh in Fresno with the silver max sent ya. He's in Visalia, I don't take my car anywhere else, totally worth the hour drive. He's one of the best nissan mechanic's anywhere.

If you have a 95 or older, yes, if it's newer then that they said to sell your car and go buy one that's a manuel. The newer ones cost too much to convert, not worth it. Sorry man, no go on your 98.
Just for others info, it would cost you around $3000 parts and labor for a 95 and older conversion to a manuel. Thats a hell of a deal if you ask me.

Dude, Ive got a 97 and I'm finishing my conversion tomorrow. I got the tranny for $700, limited slip from a 99 canadian maxima with 7k miles on it. new axles for $200, an act clutch for $300, and all the rest of the parts for $100. That equals only $1300, and I sold my NOS kit for $700, so that equals $600. Deals are out their, youve just got to find them... :D
