Hey, which kinda intake is better? Short ram or cold air?
Also, is there no need to buy headers if im planning on getting a turbo kit?

cold air kits are better, but are also more expensive. they only provide about 2-3 more hp if ur lucky from a sai. i would just go w/ a k&n filter and a pvc pipe. and no, why would u waste money buying a HEADER, singular, if ur going to need to buy another for a turbo?? wait til u get the turbo to go w/ anything exaust related

BTW, when I change out the intake, it is going to remove that giant black box right? I dunno if it's diffrent for the older Cavaliers, but the intake right now is a black plastic tube with a giant air box at the end thats holding up a container of fluid.

If you are running the cold air then all that crap besides the washer fluid box needs ripped out.

Cold air intakes are only "better" during the winter in cold temperatures. Short ram intake's filters are located on top of the engine where there's usually alot of heat, Which is why you would assume cold air is better because the filter is located in the fender or low to the ground where alot of air passes, right? But a cold air in the summer or anytime where the temperature is warm out is getting the same amount of warm air. The ground heats up in the summer so when it's low to the ground it's getting all the hot heat that's rising up from the concrete, especially when the car is stopped, and even when the car is moving, it's still just sucking up hot air from the ground and the high temperature outside. So that's why a cold air is only "better" in the winter, and you'll also need an air bypass valve so when the filter is low to the ground and it's raining or you go over a puddle water doesnt get sucked up into the throttle bottle and so on. So personally, I'd get a short ram, it's cheaper and I think it looks cooler too.

not only that but you have a little better throttle response with short ram , and you will need to mount the little bottle of fluid on the bracket that you will see when you pull the air box out, that is your clutch reservoir

i agree, and im not gonna start a conflict here but cold air intakes are not better only in the winter time, it doesnt matter what season it is or what the temperature outside is, the air outside your engine bay is ALWAYS gonna be cooler then the air inside the engine bay, (unless you have a hoodscoop that leads directly to your air filter) and you're not gonna catch heat off the concrete unless your parked, which in that case performance wouldnt be an issue,

i agree...200+ degree engine...vs 130- temp of the road...plus moving vehicles cool the road down alot...and that dosnt look into the fact that the road dosnt have the sun on it 24/7

I think I'm going to just stick with the short ram for now, since I live in Texas, and it is always hot, cept when it's raining, then it's just humid with puddles. Gotta save money for the rest of the things I plan on buying anyway.

I've got the short ram on mine and I haven't been dissappointed in the least. Only thing that sucks is the $300 CAD I spent on it will be for naught once I get my turbo.

yah i made a cheap ass Intake with a Ractive fiter and PVC pipe guess u guys are calling that a ram air. thats good enough for u for now BTW i found gettin the air box out to be quite the hassle had to get rid of the battery and the fuse box had to be unmounted and moved temperarily to get it out. other than that its a very simple install and that stuffs not even hard just a minor annoyence.
