Isuzu Axiom Ignition Key removal problem

My 2002 Isuzu Axiom sporadically will not allow the key to come out of the ignition while turning it off. It will turn partially, then stop and will not turn any further. It takes several times of moving the shifter back and forth and turning the key. I took it to a local dealer, he kept it for 6 weeks, said it was the shifter lock just needed tightening. When I went to pick it up, he said he did the best he could that I need to make sure it is definitely in Park and it should come out. If not, play with it back and forth. He said he worked on it about 2 hrs and charged me $110.00. I drove it home, put it in park and guess what, the key wouldn't come out - AGAIN! I move the shifter back and forth numerous times and turned the key numerous times and finally, it came out. It is the same thing. Any advice?

I had a similar problem with 1996 Isuzu Trooper, the key was stuck in the ignition for a day. I turned the steering wheel and depressed the shift lock several times while someone was trying to pull the key out. After 5 minutes of trying it worked. I had shifted the gear several times in the interim while the vehicle was turned off. I hope this helps.
