new motor problem

I know this is kind of a long shot but I wanted to know if anyone might help me figure out what could be wrong. Ok my friend and I installed a JDM h23 about three days ago. When I start it, it feels like it wants to shut off but then levels out to about 800RPM. What I found different about thie motor was that it had two extra vaccum nipples on the I.M. One is by the throttle body and the other is close to the f.p.r. What we did was just plug those two up together. Could it be my timing is off a bit or could it be the hoses? Thanks

If it was a timing issue it wouldn't smooth out after warming up or whatever. Sounds like a vacuum issue. Probably choke is being starved during warm up. I'd look into the complete swap guide and see what to do about those extra two vacuum nipples..Good luck man =)

Ok I got it working alright. The problem is that the timing is way off! I have to twist the distributor all the way towards the firewall just so it won't turn off. Even like that it still won't work properly. What could it be?

Ok I found the problem. Whoever it was that took it off the original car must have messed with the exhaust cam gear. I took off the valve cover and tried to put it on TDC but the exhaust gear thing was off by two little teeth. I just pulled the belt off a little and moved it to where it should be and it was all good from there on.
