This probably doesnt belong in this forum but since i have a 3000 and i know you guys the best i thought i would see what you think. Im thinking about getting a bike this summer. I never rode one before, or a dirtbike. Im gonna take the class first. Just wanted to know what you thought or any certain bike you guys like or even if you have one. Im leaning toward the gsxr 600. 600 should be alright im assuming for me to start out. Its not that big of a bike even though i know it can be powerful. Im 6'0 around 210lb so it shouldnt be to much to handle. Let me know what you think.

My advise to anyone getting a bike. Get a 250cc first. If you want a sport bike, get a ninja 250R. They are cheep and will sell for right about what you bought it for. Getting a "small" bike will allow you to learn how to ride well first. Then worry about going fast. Hell the 250R will still do 0-60 in under 6 seconds.

I've been thinkin that to. Just got done reading all the advice in the motorcycle forum and they all say to go with a 250. Maybe ill go with that for a couple months then upgrade.

I had been wondering the same thing. I don't have the money for one as of yet, but it is something I want in the future. I think that advice is good. I was talking it over with some friends, (half who own bikes) and half who are morons, and they all said get a gsx 1000. I told them I didn't want to kill myself that quickly. Turns out two of them both started with gsx 1000s, and both have laid them down 2x each

i started on a 650cc chopper bikes DEMAND respect if you don't you will get hurt and hurt badly b/c no metal surrounding you, no seat belts, no air bags. You get the point I'm wanting like a CBR600RR :D but want a VR4 first so it will have to wait.

Definately get a "learning bike" first such as anything below 300cc's. Especially if you haven't ridden dirt bikes or any other type of motorcycle before. And dont under estimate the 600's. I think those GSXR 600's run high 10's bone stock. That is nothing to fool around with. I think taking the class is a great idea and I would read the thread about buying your first street bike in the motorcycle section if you haven't already read that particular thread in that section. I also may reccomend some steering dampers if your just starting out. These can be a life saver....seriously. What they do is they attatch to your handle bars and the frame of the bike and if you start to get the shakes when your going at high speeds (even like 40mph or over) the hydraulic arm will lock so that it stops the front end fork shakes. Anyone who has ridden a motorcycle enough can tell you that the shakes often times mean a crash and/or can give you the pucker affect. Best of luck to you and be safe.

I have to agree and say go with a small bike at first and then upgrade. I dont have street bikes but i have a dirtbike and i worked my way up to what i have now. I think you will be surprised at how fast you get used to the bike And SL3000gt made a good point about those steering dampeners. Yesterday i almost lost it goin about 60 on my dirtbike because i hit some unstable ground and the bars started shaking the worst i have ever seen (on my bike anyways) but i did manage to get it back under control. I cant even imagine what it would be like on a street bike. Well, whatever you get just be careful on it.
