um... cheap? buy a 4 banger mustang foxbody and drop a 302 into it fully built or a 351 (i've seen it done...)

Get a used Grand Prix or Regal with the NA 3.8L and add a turbo kit = 11sec car
:smokin:

Drop an LS engine in a used RX7...

^ galants are nice, esp. the galant VR4 if you can find one. Also, a saab aero 9000, or a dodge spirit R/T ... those are all nice sleepers.

or just buy a 5.0, build it, and put 4cyl badges on it ;)

how bout this, it will be different...

ford ranger with the 2.5l 4 cyl. yes its slow as shit stock, but that engine can take boost very well. its the same engine block that was used in the SVO mustang.

how about the really small geo metro hatches, and swap engines from a turbo'd swift. nothin like a 200+whp 3 banger

^All weak.

Get a Mitsubishi Starion or Dodge Conquest (same car) and build the motor up with a MPI conversion and lots of boost. youd have a 12 second car for about 6 grand and it'll last longer then you.

2.3L

nope wrong, but kinda right. the 2.3l ranger engine is in the most recent engine in the ranger, it is the duratec 2.3l. the last gen ranger (mine is a 99) had a 2.5l 4 cyl. the 2.5l in the ranger is the same as the SVO mustang engine, but it is bored out some. the mustang engine was 2.3l, so you are right there.

well your kinda wrong and right. the old rangers have the 2.3l that is that same block as the 2.5l. so its basically the same thing but in one of those years in there they decided to increase the displacement some. but now with the new generation of rangers they switched to a completely different engine which is the 2.3l duratec.

DSM's are cheap power. Otherwise you could get a foxbody like previously stated with a built 302.

If you can find one i'd suggest the GMC Syclone or the Typhoon.

Here's a Typhoon on ebay:

Looks like a weak ass Jimmy, but it'll run high 13's stock.

Same motor, but it is lighter, and better looking then the Typhoon, IMO. This truck won a contest of speed against a ferrari in an automobile magazine. It'll run a 4.6 sec. 0-60 time, and a mid 13 sec. 1/4 mile. Dunno how reliable they are, but man, I would love to own one. Smoking vettes has gotta be good, especially in a S10 pickup. :D

Plus they hold their resale value rather well. Overlooked, unlike the Gran National.

ANY of the dodge turbo series where they had 2.5l Turbo or 2.2l turbo motors were sick, and about every engine from the mid-late 80's was swapable w/ another. There were dodge caravan turbo's (think 12's), dodge spirit RT's, Dodge omni's, and even if you can't find a turbo'd shell, find a turbo'd motor and drop it in a non-turbo shell. From what i remember they are cheap .

87 Regal T-type, very badass car and has a remedy for 12's under 2k$ if you chose to use it.

DSM's can hit 12's relatively cheaply too, just not the FWD ones.

The mitsu mirage from the late 80's had a turbo version that you could swap for a 4g63t out of a DSM and it doesn't look fast at all. Also various hyndai and kia cars came w/ mitsu style motors that are swappable w/ the 4g63t too look out for. just look around you'll figure something out.

It might be beneficial for you to check out the sport compact car on "sleepers" they had some useful information and it may help you get in the right direction.

But like i said, galants are hte sex

Turbo or not you can find most of them pretty cheap. My Turbo II GTC was only $600. Spirit R/Ts, Daytona Iroc R/Ts, and TCs aren't very cheap but they are also ultra rare. Turbo Daytonas and LeBarons are everywhere. The Turbo II LeBarons are pretty rare but the Turbo II is very common on the Daytona.

My suggestion, an 1989 Dodge Daytona Turbo II. Go with the Turbo II LeBaron GTC if you can find it. Same car, just more luxury, and more sleeper.

That or you can buy any car with the 2.5L or 2.2L I4 and swap a Turbo II in. Some are harder than others to do the swap, but it can be done. Also, these motors can do 12s reliably for a few grand.
