use this thread to let loose your rants concerning modern drivers and what gets on your nerves when driving.

for me being a truck driver i have the following rants....
1..roundabouts...why cant people learn to use them correctly

2..indicators..they are there to inform other road users of your intentions...we are not all mind readers

3..parking too near a junction..i swear one of these days i'll just take out someones car parked on a corner thus making it impossible for me to manouver my truck

these are just a few...i'm sure you guys (& gals) over in the states can add some more...............

people who ride in the left lane and refuse to pass anyone. just sit there and drive next to someone, or pass at like 1 mile an hour faster.

or the people who you pass, and they see it as some sort of a challenge. no i just wanted to get past your slowass, not race you. like tonight for example, this woman is doing 60 in the 65 in her little kia. sooo i move over and pass her cuz i wanted to do around 80 and i had places to be. so i pass her and am about to move over again and i see her zooming up and was like wth..so then she just rode right off the back of my right side bumper. and she'd fall back, then try and zoom up again. i eventually just did 95 to put some space between us cuz i don't like driving next to crazy people :screwy:

Forget SV said anything.

I hate when people constantly race me because of the car I drive.
I hate when a cop pulled me over for having tinted windows when I was with a group of people who blacked out their windows.
I hate when people assume you'll be courteous.
I hate when people stop completely instead of merging.
I hate when people don't let you merge.
I hate when people speed through school zones (I'm really anal about this).
I hate when people try to show off.
I hate when people stalk you for miles, even if you show them no interest in racing.
I hate cars with HID lighting.
I hate seeing trucks pull up right behind me at a red light so that their headlights (sometimes foglights) blind me from all my mirrors.
I hate when people think they're Brian O'Conner.
I hate when people think they're Takumi Fujiwara.
I hate when people honk at you for going slow over train tracks, even though they don't know what it's like to drive on low pros.
I hate when people only talk about JDM.
I hate when people think they have a higher status because of their car.
I love when people think my FC is a 6 cylinder :)

There's so much more, but I'd be here forever.

i hate people who speed in construction zones. is their destination really that much more important than those guys' lives? i don't think so. yeah i have a speeding problem often, but i'm not a dumbass. places where there are people are times when u slow down and be EXTRA careful, not try and show off. even if i did have a cool car, it's just not worth it. too many people lose their lives to show-offs. a friend of mine was walking with her 2 yr old son across the street and he let go off her hand for one second, she stopped to turn around and grab him and a car ran her child over there right in front of her. to bonedavid, i'm very sorry to hear about your son :(

I hate when your merging in rush hour traffic and the asshole next to you is trying to not let you in. Fuck him, in behind the wheel my instructor told me," When merging if its really busy, turn on your blinker and count to 5 and just go. They will stop" Its true, but then i get the finger. Guess what pal, FUCK YOU too!!!

People that turn on their signals AFTER they've already switched lanes. Or, when they've been sitting in the turning lane during the red light, then when it turns green they turn on their signal as they pull out. :screwy:

many years ago now my friend...buts thanks...it's appreciated.

i am a happy go-lucky sort of guy and follow the live and let live attitude...except where dangerous/drunk driving is concerned for obvious reasons.

to sv "my bad....sometimes i just take shit too far, and i don't drive anyway"

yes you do my friend...i sincerely hope and pray that you never have to know the pain and hurt and anger such circumstances bring upon oneself..and a silly remark such as yours brings it all back.

i'm sure i speak for many who have lost their children this way when i say that time does not heal the pain or fade the memory...they are with you every second of every day just under the surface..ready to bring you to tears or lash out without warning.

My biggest problem is with people who don't stop for the flashing red lights on a school bus picking up children. I live across from a major grocery chain warehouse, on a rural road, and experience this problem every week, whether it's the employees, visitors, or vendor tractor trailers pulling in and out of the site. I have a son who is deaf and has autism, and when he was being picked up for preschool last year this was a major problem. I was worried that even though I held his hand to get on the bus, there was the chance that something could distract him and he could pull away and run towards the road. I had our transportation dept put up "Deaf Child" and "School Bus Stop Ahead" signs but they are of little value. I've even had the police in the area to observe, but everybody is then on their best behavior when they see them. Once, there was a tractor trailer pulling out of their entrance while my son was boarding the bus and he almost side-swiped the bus as he was making the wide turn. The bus driver laid on the horn and told the driver to stop and the driver blew his horn, gave him the middle finger and shouted expletives at the bus driver. Nice huh? The police have told me there is little I can do as in order to ticket these drivers, they have to witness the infraction themselves, which to me is total B.S. They need to change the laws concerning the handling of people who break the law concerning stopping for a stopped school bus.

When others f*ck up, then look at me like I was at fault.

That just happened to me; some middle-aged fossil did not yield and kept going while I approaching. She ends up driving on the side of the road next to me because I didn't let her merge.

Ha ha, she gave me this rude face and swore (or assumed swearing -only saw her lips moving) at me like its my fault she ran the yield sign.
I mean the damn sign had a blinking yellow light on it. -you f*cked up, it wasn't my fault.

I just completely ignored her. I figured she eventually realized it was her fault because she stayed behind me most of the time (even though I was going somewhat slow). -signifying she was afraid to see me eye to eye.

I hate people that decide to speed through a school zone while school is letting out and the children are walking along the sidewalks, cuz we all nkow not all of them wait for the cross guard: I never did.
I also hate when your driving in a multi lane rd and you are the only car on it. Then some dumbass decides that he wants to pull out of a sidestreet right into your lane. Doesn't want to use the other lanes nor do they want to wait till you pass, but rather they want to wait right before you get there and pull in front of you in your lane.

gereal bad drivers.

my mum's cousin (also called Aaron) was killed in a hit-and-run a few years ago. the other driver left the scene, while my second cousin was left in his wrecked car. he later died in hospital. i never got to know him.

my friend Tim was killed in a car accident, he was drugged and drove his Evo into the back of a truck at something like 160 (we don't know the actual speed) the car's rollcage didn't save him and he died in hospital.

speed limit's there for a reason. unless you're absolutely sure that you pose no risk to others, or yourself keep within the limit.

i've done stupid things driving, but never putting others at risk.

people who get pissy when you pass them.

last night i was drivin home from milwaukee, it was 330 am and i wanted to get home. so i am the ONLY car on the road and some idiot thinks it'd be a great idea to cut me off when i'm donig about 65 and they're at a complete stop from getting off the interstate. they are going 40 mph, i wanted to go at least 70 since the roads are empty. so i pass them right away and continue on my way. all of a sudden they're accelerating at my bumper, then slamming on the brakes at the last second repeatedly and flashing their brights at me. wtf? if i wasn't asleep at the wheel i probably would've rolled my window down and given them the finger.

and fred i know what u mean about people and their blinkers. turning them on after u get in the turn lane and sit there for awhile defeats the point. ur in the turn lane..we all know ur turning. same goes for people who turn their blinker on waaaaaay too early and confuse people as to where they're turning. i think that there should be some sort of required remedial driving school at every few certain ages. some people really need it...

It's been done to death, but I get sick of people who can't get the hell off the freakin' phone and just DRIVE, damnit!

Seems that lately every airbrain on a cell phone has it out for me. They pull out without looking, they run stop signs, they drift into the next lane, they go too stinkin' slow, and they look at the rest of US like it's OUR fault.

SHUT UP AND DRIVE! GET OFF THE PHONE AND PAY ATTENTION, DUMBASS! :banghead:

Just a few, in order from slightly annoying to highly dangerous.

5. People who don't stop before making a right turn on red.

4. People who beep at you because you did!

3. People who merge onto the highway right along side your car, instead of going in front or behind, even when there is plenty of space.

2. People who can't (or just don't bother to) stay in the same lane when turning onto a four lane road. Many will swing out into the far lane, (or some where in between the two!) which is not only inconsiderate to others, but endangers them as well. Do they really have that poor of skills that they can't make a left turn into the center of the left lane (or right to right)? :dunno:

1. Tailgating and/or squeezing through tight spots in traffic when changing lanes. Both of these practices leave little room for error or reaction. :nono: :chair:

i guess it's different for you.

in London just about everyone hates, with a passion, cyclists. we wouldn't if they obeyed the highway code once in a while, but instead they don't stop at red lights, ever. i see them everyday, about 5 or so, all the other traffic stops but the cyclist just crosses the junction like they own the bastard road.

my mum aims for them, once when driving my dad into work (he couldn't go in on his scoot because a guy ran a red light and drove on the wrong side of the road. he hit my dad, sending him accross the bonnet/hood and writing off the bike. my dad could barely walk for a couple weeks.) a cyclist on oxford street just goes straight accross past us, my mum floors it and holds the horn on.

i've seen plenty of cyclist get run over. i've been there when it happens, i remember walking home when a guy on a bike ran a red, then got hit by a car. i felt no sympathy what so ever, he didn't stop. tough shit.

I'm such a hypocrit, because I drive aggressively often, I speed always, and I only use my blinkers when my action would cause another driver to slow down, or if a cop is watching. So yeah, I'm not the best driver when it comes to following the law, but I consider myself someone who is always extremely aware of my surroundings, traffic, and my car's size and abilities.

What gets me, is people who drive 12 under the limit, people who don't know the difference between stop and yield, and people who aren't aware of other drivers/the flow of traffic. Like they will stop 3 ft into an intersection to make a left turn, and block everyone behind them who is trying to go straight. Oblivious people like that piss me off.

Most everything listed annoys me...especially the things that endanger children. I hate that (like in many other areas of life in general) people are out only for themselves and will do what it takes to get to their destination no matter how many people on the road they piss off. Their agenda is the only thing that matters and if someone causes you to run your car up a curb or into a ditch, oh well, so long as that person gets to where they need to go. I hate that attitude.

Side story: a few years ago I was on the freeway on the way to a friend's house. A car nearly took mine out because he was busy changing lanes/swerving around other traffic at 90+ mph. I saw him coming in my rearview. He wedged himself in between me and the car that WAS originally in front of me. I saw his back end just long enough to memorize his plate number. Soon he swerved again and disappeared from sight...but not before causing several others cars to veer or almost hit each other.

A few days later there was a story on the front page of the paper about a fatal accident caused by wrecklessness on the freeway, with a big picture of the carnage. They showed the smashed up car of the person who died. He had rammed a work truck at a high rate of speed. The license plate number was that of the guy who I had seen days earlier on my way to my friend's house. The accident happened a few miles north of where I exited the freeway. It scared me that 1. I saw someone in their final moments (driving like a lunatic down the road), and 2. that had I been a few miles ahead of where I was, it could have been me that he rammed into.

It all goes to show that disregarding the laws and others will eventually bite you in the ass. I just never thought I would almost witness it :(

Hammered drivers.

Now. I admit that ive driven having a few too many drinks, and if i get caught im willing to deal with the consequeses. I still drive fine, and i know when i really SHOULDNT be driving. But when i see someone who is hammered out of their mind on the road, i break out the cellphone and dial 911 on their ass.

A few nights ago I was leaving my friends house at 2:30am. I pull behind this black bimmer who had his headlights off.
"hmmm" i say think to myself because I know that forgetting to turn your lights on is the first sign of drunkeness. I decided to give him the benefeit of the doubt. Well s/he quickly burst that bubble as s/he started swerving erratically everywhere at 15mph....in a 55 zone. Yeah. I watch as s/he almost drive into the barrier a few times. THEN! this girl or guy switches into the LEFT lane (probably thinking they were on the part of the road where it becomes a divided highway) and almost hit 2 other cars head on! That's when I called 911 and gave the local college cops the description of the car and the plate number. This person then pulled off into the exit that brings them to Umass campus. Idiot. I hope this person was caught because they would have nailed some student trying to cross the street. Im have a good feeling that they did too because they had an APB out for them AND there were cops EVERYWHERE (campus, local and staties!) on the campus that night too. Talk about bad decisions. Yeesh.
