93 ranger v6 2wd has check engine light on *how2 diagnose*

hi does any1 nkow how to get the codes from the check engine light

i have a 93 that has the light on

i see the service connector

do i just ground the 2 wires and watch the check engine light flash?

does any1 have the codes so i can look em up!????????

You're pretty much on track. A small jumper is used to connect the two test leads under hood. Do a search or look in Haynes for info.

Your model is "two-digit" EEC-IV, I believe ... you may find the following helpful:

And the procedure to read the code(s)...In this example, it shows a Mustang, but the procedure is the same since your year utilizes the EEC-IV system.

Why not read the codes first? Then you will know for sure if your system is 2 or 3 digit.

You can then find a list, or you can do a search outright ... for example (Google search) "EEC-IV code 14".

is that the correct one or is it under the hood

i dont know which ones to ground and how does it indicate codes

i have a test light a buzzer with 2 wires to test with but i dont know which ones to use

Do you have access to a Haynes manual ?... for any Ford vehicle in the late eighties - early nineties will do.

You will find a drawing showing where to connect the jumper. Since you have a light in the instrument cluster, you can ignor all the info concerning the volt-meter ... as you will be reading the code on the "CEL" lamp.

The jumper goes between a test point on the connector you have already found ... and a single connector that is nearby on a separate lead.

OOps, just a moment ... I remember the EEC connector having 6 receptacles. I could be wrong.

Why not use the link that I posted which shows how the connections are made?

I agree with Stuzman. The link he provided is easier to understand than the one I provided ... but both have test information provided. It takes a bit of reading.
