Engine Rebuild

I'm thinking about tearing an engine out of my old 91 dx sedan (currently rusting away behind my house). As far as engines are concerned, my knowledge is not very thorough, which is why i want to experiment on this old engine.
I've done some searching, and information is vague, particularly on this engine (whichever the 91 dx sedan came stock with (dpfi)) And the information that is there, is often not clear (with many oppinions and what not...)
I have a haynes manual that will tell me everything i need to know on this rebuild, i've read through it and all that stuff, but i'd like a few oppinions on necessary tools and what should definitely be replaced (gaskets, seals, etc.)
I know the engine burned/leaked oil, it ticked really badly (like most honda motors, except worse) but overall it ran pretty well.
If there are previous posts with good, solid information, or good websites i could browse, point me to them, cuz i'm having a hard time sifting through all the information right now.
Thanks for helping a newb in need

Get an engine gasket set, rings and bearings. If you want you can replace stuff like oil and water pump, but its more of a preventative than nessessity.
