Driving to the store today I noticed my guages weren't working. I blew the 20A Inst/Ign fuse. I got another and replaced it hoping it was a fluke but when I started it, the brake light stayed on. I can press the Ebrake and it become brighter. Weird, I thought. Well, the other fuse blew after driving for 10 mins.
Any ideas where to begin checking for a short????? http://www.s10forum.com/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif
It's an 89 4.3 2wd longbed.
Oh, after it blew the 2nd fuse, I put in another and can hear the alternater kinda whining but the voltmeter is about 13v. I haven't added or touched anything in a while so i don't think it's anything I've done.

there are 3 levels of intencity on the break light, the e break being the brightest... theres either a code concerning the break or low fluid level... the wiring i would say is a chaffed wire that need tracked down

After one day of popping fuses, today my alternator died. Maybe it was spiking before it's death. I don't know. Replaced it and seems fine now. The voltmeter (dash) shows about 13v but I've still gotta check it with a multimemter. It's kind of weird since the one that died was only about 6 months old. I'm hoping it was just a bad one and not a short somewhere. I'm going to look around closer this weekend at the wiring and try and clean up all grounds.

Check out of sight wire locations also, like maybe under carpet at your feet. I discovered I had wires going under there for back lights, under there where I step in.
