temp sensor

I am looking for the "intake air temp" sensor. I think its probably the sensor in the plastic tube between the air cleaner and intake. Can anybody varify this for me? Sorry, forgot, 2003 tb with inline 6. thanks.

Same problem. 2002 Trailblazer LTZ that reads outside air temperature as 50 all the time. Replaced sensor, still 50. Replaced fuse 36 (not blown), still 50. Any more ideas?

Jim you are referring to a different temp sensor. Yours is behind the radiator grille. The intake air temp sensor for the PCM is a totally seperate sensor.

What is the sensor in the intake tube for? I am looking for it for installing a performance box, which needs to be inline with the intake air temp sensor.

What is the sensor in the intake tube for?

On the 2002-2005 4.2L the IAT , MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor along with coding in the PCM are what makes huge fuel trim changes. The upstream of the cat O2 sensor makes small changes as well. Don't mess with the IAT sensor on the 2002-2005. 2006+ 4.2's have the addition of a MAF in the air intake tract. Messing with the IAT on those is pretty useless as well as the MAF will take over.

were you able to fix the problem? Did you air conditioning blow warm if it read a lower number during hot days?

If the A/C blows warm air, get your fan clutch replaced. The old part will not draw enough air across the A/C condensor and it cant cool down. The new part with the updated calibration fixes this.

And, DO NOT INSTALL A "PERFORMANCE" BOX!!!! All they are is a resistor that tricks the PCM. Pure BS, they dont work. Return it and get a real tune instead.

I haven't installed any "Performance" box at all. Does the outside temp sensor have a relation with the fan clutch? The air does blow cold especially when the outside air temp reads accurately. When the outside temp reads below 50 degrees and it is obviously warmer than that outside is when the air doesn't blow cold. I noticed this morning it was 78 degrees outside. When I started it up it read 78. As I drove my 2 miles to work, it started dropping down to 50 degree reading. The air was really cold at first but was beginning to warm up as the outside air reading dropped.

I just started having this same problem yesterday, whenever my external temperature reading is below 50 my air will not blow cool. It was 85 degrees yesterday and it was reading -29. It seems to be an intermittent problem but with the temperature pushing 95 today I can not deal. What needs to be replaced the sensor? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!:banghead:

This thread is in regards to the intake air temp (IAC). Not sure what yours is called. Might be ambient air temp. That one is behind the grille near one of the headlamp assemblies. It will need to be cleaned and/or replaced if your dash gauge is off.
