Can anyone tell me if it's normal for my '94 escort LX to have a high rpm on initial startup? Not that this is unusual, but it stays at 2000rpm for about 5 mins and more, even on days that aren't cold. Thnx for any info.

It should compensate for a cold engine or drag from the accessories. I don't think it is normal to run so high for so long. Take the IAC (idle air control) off the top of the throttle body and lube it with some light oil... I think it is sticking. This should help. Don't try to clean it. It will just muck up the bellows in it.
